Stayed here for 2 nights with my husband, we were looking for a quiet relaxing place. After reading the reviews which were mixed I thought I'd just see what I thought as I'm not fussy. …

Have just returned from a two night stay at The Royal Hotel which was quite shabby and in need of update. We stayed in a superior room with a nice view, but the room was quite shabby and not up to standard. Bed was comfortable and room clean. Staff were all very nice and helpful. Renovation work was going on in the room next to us with constant noise of a whizzer and banging doors which started at 8am. I don't think it's right to expect people to pay for rooms next to renovation work going on. We did complain, and the staff offered to move us, but we were leaving the following morning anyway. Hotel is in a great location for all amenities, hopefully when it has had all renovations completed will deserve another star.

I was on holiday with my husband we were not impressed with this hotel saying it was supposed to be a 3 star hotel but I would definitely say no the room was shabby and really old fashioned most probably dating back to the 70s with work men working on the above rooms till late at night trying to get some sleep was a total joke with scaffolding outside the room we were put next to the lift we booked in on Friday till Friday but we just couldn’t stand it any longer it stated parking spaces at hotel only parking was pay and display on the side streets dog friendly but £20 per night extra breakfast £15 pp parking £15 per day it all adds up but the old woman on the reception was just so rude and nasty her attitude was so disgusting she needs sacking shouting out that I will not be refunded right in front of other guests it’s just a shambles I will never recommend this hotel to anyone. Disgusting.

The hotel is a perfect location to visit the beach and the town. An amazing view from our room. The room was very clean, and the bed was comfortable.Unfortunately, due to the renovations, our water was switched off during the day. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating, offering us another room to wash in or swap to.The bar had a wide choice, and the staff, once again, were friendly.I suspect that our next stay will be even better (yes we've already booked!)Perfect location, amazing staff!

I like it here, it's not the Ritz but it's clean, quiet and there's a nice vibe with very friendly staff. The food is pretty decent too. You can't beat the location, and if you get a sea view room it's a great view of Whitby and the abbey.

It would have been a lovely hotel back in the day but is a bit dated and needs money spending to improve it. |The staff were friendly and helpful, especially the waiting on staff and the bar staff. …

This has been a grand hotel in years gone by. It's looking a bit tired now and needs a big refurbishment. Some parts were getting refurbishment as we were there. …

Myself and my husband stayed here last month in one of the newly refurbished rooms and we have to say the stay was fantastic! The room was stunning, and the bathroom was amazing! Very sleek and stylish and the bed was extremely comfortable. The location of the royal is spot on too as the views are breathtaking! We got a fantastic last minute deal as we booked the night before our stay! We will definitely be returning!
