Stayed at the hostel for just a night on short notice, but had a great time here. Staff are really cool, the rooms and facilities are really clean and there didn't seem to be any noise issues coming from the bar downstairs either which i was worried about. All in all a great place to stay.

Many great nights at this pub/club. There's space to enjoy a beer or a pool game even when the music's on, but the dancefloor's always going strong too with great music most weekends. Have heard the hotel/hostel rooms are good too.

bar staff are unbelievably rude and racist. my friend was chucked out of the venue with 6 security guards as we had cash only and no money on the card. i never seen anything like this in my life. they threw my friend out the door and it was clearly because he’s black. never seen racism like that on front of my eyes. and in the response to this review it says we were being difficult lol how? there is no reason to treat any paying customer in any way and to be honest i should take further legal allegations further in regards to racial harassment which is prevalent in this club. you have absolutely no right to touch anyone or remove anyone in this manner and i will be taking this matter further

I stayed at this hostel for a few days on July as a solo traveler. Good deal for the price. I got everything I needed. It is approximately 30 min away by underground from the main touristic places. It's a 15 min walk from the hostel to Brixton station but there are buses just across the street that take you to the station in 6 min.The area seems sketchy but there's just a lot of crackies near the underground station, looks like it's not dangerous, but that's why I chose to take the bus everytime instead of walking.I shared a room with 3 girls and personally, I had no problem. Room was clean, roommates were respectful. Did not have any trouble with noise from the bar. I guess it's because I stayed during weekdays. Bathroom and showers were constantly cleaned. I used them once in the morning, once at night and it was always clean. Decent kitchen. You have the choice to cook for yourself (I didn't use it) and there's free breakfast every morning (bread, tea/coffee, milk, jams, butter, cereal). Staff was nice and helpful.Overall I got everything I was expecting to get for the price and would recommend this hostel for people travelling on a budget.

For a local pub this place throws down. Don't know how the UK generally does it but this has food (with vegan options), pool tables, a chill bar, a dance bar, and a club room. Easily mistaken for a summer camp this place creates a comfortable place to dance and experience Brixton.

Hadn't been here for a long time - It hasn't changed - still a brilliant pub and venue.. Went for a Ska evening - started with excellent Goat Curry from a stall in the forecourt - when the bands started the atmosphere was brilliant - The Nine Ton Peanut Smugglers were superb - everyone dancing and when Natty Bo and the Top Cats came on - close to 1 am everything took off. . Fantastic evening (also bar service excellent - never had to wait) - (PS - This listing seems to present the Hootananny as a hotel - It s just a pub/music venue so questions that would apply to a hotel are not applicable)

So, the door staff have attitude, you can also take as many drugs in there as you like, because they don't check bags properly, and also the bar staff (manager O.S. presumably) tell you that you have an attitude when you try to tell them that their door staff are about as useful as a chocolate fireplace. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Wouldn't recommend unless there's a gig there, and even then, it's only just tolerable

Stayed for one night while going to the Scala for a concert. The staff were very helpful especially as I forgot photo ID. The hostel is a 10 minute walk from Brixton station and I used the Victoria line to get around. The rooms were clean and tidy, a locker and self service breakfast were provided, There was plenty of toilet and shower facilities and also a shared lounge, a kitchen, and laundry room. The hostel is part of a building containing a pub and also a venue for bands. On the Thursday I stayed, the bar was open until 2am which came in handy. The drinks were reasonably priced for London and there was a decent selection available.

I had a wonderful time at @Hootananny in Brixton. I saw Loose Ends, a British R&B band with hit recordings in the 1980s and 1990s. Their performance was fantastic. If possible, go see them; it is a must!
