Traveling from 🇨🇦 with my son, and having my first hostel experience here, we were certainly the exception in terms of typical guests! Not too many Mother-Son duos who stay in dorm rooms!! However, we found this stay at the Astor to be fantastic, highlighted by both the Astor staff and guests who were incredibly warm and kind! The staff provided excellent customer service and were immediately warm, friendly and very helpful in all regards. They helped to make this a fab stay. Five stars for them!Guests were delightful and warm as we sat in the cozy common area to chat later at night. There are many well designed spaces in this hostel to sit and be still or to sit and meet others. The dorm room was clean and large, with two restrooms at each end of the room. The only challenge presented in this space is that there were no privacy curtains on the bunks, so everyone just created their own makeshift version of curtains. Part of the experience!Overall, a really fantastic stay with a return visit in the plans!

What a lovely place. Exceed my expectations. Bunk beds. But adult size. Lovely simple breakfast. Tea and coffee available free all day. Friendly staff who really card about their guests. Would recommend. Slept in a dorm as a 56 year old woman and felt safe x

Very simpel but cute hostel. Instantly made feel like I want to spend Christmas there. Such a friendly team of staff and family atmosphere even though I only stayed one night. Beds don't have curtains, which usually bothers me but not in this case. Rooms are clean. Only - is that it is a bot of a walk to the centre but still not bad.

The staff are what make this place! So lovely and welcoming. Everything fairly clean. Parking for £5 a night (not secure but off road). Only a 10-15 minute walk into city which was perfect!A few downsides but didn’t impact my stay massively; a little outdated & could do with some TLC. No privacy curtains on the bunk beds & (I guess which you’ll always get) the disrespect from some room sharers, jumping off the top of the bunks in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. There was also always music on (even at 8am Sunday morning).Overall, a good stay - would definitely return if I’m back in York!

Stayed in a female only room for 4 people for 3 nights. We had an issue with bathroom lighting not working which wasn’t fixed so 3 nights with no lights in the bathroom. Staff were very helpful & tried fixing it. They gave us a temp torch until an electrician is called. Room is a bit run down with mould in shower room & stains on carpet & wall. Place desperately needs a renovation. But overall it is a basic stay & i felt safe.

Great cosy hostel with super friendly staff and great homely amenities! Location was walkable with luggage from York station and took about 15 minutes into the heart of it or bus right outside. Rooms were okay, bunk beds were so short you couldn't sit on them without hitting head and not every bed has a charger or light. I would stay here again, felt safe as a solo female traveller!

The stay was absolutely delightful, with the charming communal area and vibrant garden stealing my heart. As I was engrossed in a captivating book from the hostel's library, it was gifted to me as a thoughtful souvenir, making my stay even more special. The excellent service only added to the experience, leaving me eager to return for more unforgettable stays.

I had a wonderful stay at Astor York. The rooms are clean, the staff are the best (so friendly and accommodating) we had aproblem the second night due to another guest and although it wasn’t the hostels fault the staff were beyond helpful . The problem instantly solved by Patrick and his above and beyond actions. Would recommend this hostel to anyone and everyone, because of Patrick alone, but everything else was great too.
