Not recommended! It was an unpleasant stay. The room had a view of a wall and the kitchen exhaust. It was very noisy, and the kitchen smell was in our room. The room is old, with furniture that has cracks. But it was fairly clean. The spa is also old. No robes provided. The breakfast was quite tasty.

Situated on top of a cliff, this place has some great views and walks along the coastline. Wish we had known beforehand as we would probably have stayed a second night as there is a lot to see in the area. …

Would just like to review this place as they went above and beyond on our stay. My fiancé booked the room but asked them to put rose petals in the room as he was proposing. …

We went along for lunch and stayed for tea!! Its lovely, really lovely. I had a spa treatment including massage which was so relaxing and the pool afterwards was lovely and big.The afternoon tea was wonderful, I really enjoyed the selection of dinky sandwiches and scones. The patisserie however was not to our liking. We think its probably delivered, rather than cooked on the premises. It was overly sweet and all four of our party tasted one and left the rest. We hope to stay at the hotel next year as its situation, tranquil environment and overall experience is very good indeed.

We felt very welcome at the headland hotel. We had 2 Labradors with us and our friends had a poodle, eating in the bar was no problem even with 3 big dogs with us. All the staff made us and the dogs very welcome. The garden room was great with patio doors direct access to garden for midnight wee walks.

Headland Hotel is in a superb location with views across Torquay Bay in both directions plus the coastal path, with stunning views, is right outside the front door. Service was excellent with breakfast and dinner being very good. We will definitely stay here again.

Stayed here for a three night break recently.Firstly the good points:-The bar area and food were very good and spotlessly clean. The bar staff were friendly and attentive. The view from the bar terrace is lovely.Set away in the hills out of the way from all the crowds and a small (but steep) walk to the beach. The not so good points:-Parking was a little tricky to find especially if you went out in your car and came back during the afternoon.Charging £10 per resident per day to use the spa area seemed a little expensive for what was in there.Bar prices are high. Over £9 for one lager and a bottle of Cola.Beds and pillows were hard. Not to our taste but would suit some people. The worst point for us though was the shower. The water pressure was non-existent. The wife actually struggled to wash the conditioner out of her hair it was that weak. All in all, it wasn't a bad place to stay buy could just do with a "few wrinkles" ironing out.

Great hotel with brilliant staff, very clean and comfortable. Location is lovely and food very nice. Only disappointing point was the entertainment, they turned up late with a back up singer with poor humour and bad choice of depressing ballads

The rooms were dreadful—small, outdated, and barely cleaned by the room attendant during our entire stay. We had to request fresh towels and toiletries ourselves. The shower was another major issue, with almost no water pressure. For someone with long hair, getting properly washed was a daily struggle. The bed was another significant problem. The mattress was old and extremely uncomfortable—we could feel every single spring pressing into our backs. We asked reception for a mattress topper, but they informed us they didn’t have any. Instead, they placed a duvet on top of the mattress, but it made no difference at all. We hardly got a good night’s sleep during our stay. The most troubling part of our stay occurred when the fire alarm went off at 1 AM one night. Shockingly, there was no fire marshal or responsible staff member present to manage the situation. Guests had to step in and locate the source of the alarm themselves. During the chaos, an elderly lady guest bruised her arm. When we requested a first aid kit from the night porter, we were shocked to find that the kit was practically empty, offering no help. The following morning, we approached the Hotel General Manager about the incident, but they denied everything. To make matters worse, they didn’t even apologize to the guests for the ordeal. In summary, while the hotel shines in food quality, hospitality, and its common areas, the poor room conditions, uncomfortable beds, lack of proper cleaning, and, most alarmingly, the absence of emergency management and care for guest safety are deeply concerning. The management’s refusal to acknowledge or apologize for such a serious incident is unacceptable. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this hotel based on our experience.
