My husband and I had a rather interesting stay on the Isle of Skye during our Scotland vacation, but our stay at The Bracken Hide was one of the highlights of our time there. The property is gorgeous and in a perfect location...walkable to the city centre but just far enough away that you can really appreciate the Skye feeling...beautiful views! The bungalows were very comfortable. We especially enjoyed the heated floors! They are a bit small, and there's not a whole lot of room for large amounts of luggage. However, all of the other amenities are there...TV, coffee, tea, etc. The gravel pathways to each area of the resort are a bit difficult to walk, particularly if you have rolling luggage or physical limitations. However, the staff have golf carts and can carry you/your luggage to and from your room as needed. All of the staff were so kind, caring, and helpful. For instance, on the evening we checked in, we were late arriving to the hotel due to car trouble, and we were starving. The kitchen and restaurant staff graciously agreed to stay after the restaurant had closed to accommodate us! And the food was amazing!!! Also during our stay, my husband became ill and was unable to travel. The hotel willingly accommodated us for an additional night, and the staff were so attentive and helpful. This hotel is a bit pricey compared to other accommodations in the area, but the quality of the facilities and service make it worthwhile!

What a wonderful stay! From the moment we arrived I felt so relaxed. From the beautiful location to the amazing staff to all the thoughtful touches in the rooms...it was like staying in a piece of magic. The rooms, although small (but I expected that), were very cozy. The bed was extremely comfortable and the pillows were great. The complimentary breakfast selection was excellent. The bar was a whole vibe, and the bartender Vera was the sweetest. The walk to the cabins can be a bit tiresome after a long day of hiking Skye, but the views are worth it (make sure you wake up to see the sunrise!).

Ignore the bad reviews! We had a perfectly fine stay at the Bracken Hide. The staff were welcoming and professional. They helped us with whatever we needed with speed and good cheer. The facilities were modern and well maintained. …

Amazing place to stay in Portree. The staff are super nice and polite. The cabins are clean, brand new, and offer an amazing view. The bar has an excellent selection of whisky, but the shining star was the bartender, Scott. He is very knowledgeable and genuinely enjoys helping guests to ensure they have a great time. I enjoyed every minute of my stay here! Highly recommended.

I can only assume that either, things have changed at The Bracken Hide or, expectations should be more realistic. This gem of a place is wonderful. As the name suggests, the main building/hub disappears into the landscape (like a hide!) …

We stayed three nights in October 2024 for a total of $1,288USD. Wish we hadn’t. If you don’t have a car, don’t bother. It’s a 25 min walk uphill from city centre. Hotel staff will not help you get a taxi. They will hand you a local phone and list of taxis and wish you the best. They don’t tell you that you only have 10 min of hot water in your room. So you must stagger showers by 30 min. If your cabin is on the lower level, you have a view of many houses and a stand of trees. Cannot see city center or water. Kettle was broken, asked for a new one, got nothing. You must make your breakfast and dinner reservations promptly or you will get a lot of grumbling even though restaurant is 25% full. The wait staff and food is superb. The room is small and cozy and lovely. It’s too bad the lobby/concierge staff are so unhelpful to travelers without a car. Spent a lot of money (for us) hoping for a magical retreat, but was disappointed and happy to say goodbye to the Bracken.

Where to begin... I absolutely loved my experience at Bracken Hide Hotel. This is definitely one of the highlights of my two week trip to the UK. The staff and service is incredible - huge shout out to Lindsay who made us feel like celebrity guests! Everyone who helped with our bags was so friendly, and James in the bar makes the best cocktails. We loved staying somewhere with a private cabin experience, but still close to town and all the Isle of Skye attractions. It felt a bit more remote and quiet than other options. We enjoyed the peacefulness, while still having access to high end amenities such as the fabulous bar and restaurant, Swedish saunas, and natural chill pool.Don't miss out on staying here when you're planning your trip to Isle of Skye!

The property is stunning, and the food is wonderful, they just need to train the guest facing staff a bit and it would have been an outstanding experience.Liked · The location was wonderful, very peaceful and serene. It was also a great spot for anything we wanted to see and do on the Isle of Skye. The cabins were cozy and had everything we needed for a 2-night stay. The food in the restaurants was wonderful - kudos to the kitchen team - we enjoyed one dinner and breakfast each morning. The bar was very cozy after a day of exploring the Isle of Skye. We also enjoyed the Estonian Sauna and cold plunge, which we had to ourselves due to the requirement of booking a time slot in advance.Disliked · It felt like many of the staff were very new not only to the Bracken Hide, but also to the hospitality industry. Staff were very friendly, however lacking knowledge of what would be expected of them. It's unfortunate because so many resources have obviously gone into the property, however little care and attention has gone into training the service staff. Example - a bartender who didn't know anything about Scotch (I'm talking nothing, which were sweeter, more peaty, nothing). At breakfast, the server brought out the food, but didn't clear one single plate in the entire restaurant. We had a late breakfast, there was one unused table left, and literally every other table had all their full breakfast plates on them for the duration of our meal. After packing up and coming back to check out, the tables in the restaurant still weren't cleared (see photo of view over restaurant from the main lobby). A beautiful space like this, should be left on display like that.We arrived about 45-minutes before their official check-in time. At most hotels, this is not an issue and if they don't want to give you access to your room, they at least enter all your information in the system and get you set up, then allow to you return for the key at check-in time. Instead, we were told to come back. So we drove around and explored the area a bit more, and returned 30-mins after check-in to a huge line up. Others had done the same thing, it took us an hour to get checked into our room as there was only one person working at the reception desk (there is only room for one person at the reception desk). This was unacceptable.

Remember- you are in a desolate area of Scotland. This location and cabins really help you get back to the beauty of Skye. The detached cabins are small but very nice.|Then you head down to the main lodge. …
