This was probably our fourth time in this hotel. The reason we keep coming back here is the excellent central location and the welcoming staff. …

Wonderful old style hotel in the centre of Edinburgh. The check in staff were exceptional and the young lady, Elizabeth who was working behind the bar was amazing. Her knowledge of the drinks available and her service was wonderful. Very friendly. Our time in the bar was ruined by a large group of loud people who appeared to be playing out a fringe show. This would not be tolerated in any of the top hotels I stay and I was surprised the management allowed them to stay.

You certainly can’t fault this hotel for location, cleanliness and friendly, helpful staff. The room & bathroom was immaculate with a huge, comfortable bed. There was limited tea & coffee with no sugar but you can ask for more. The view of Scott Monument & gardens was worth the extra price and sitting in bed at night seeing the lights was beautiful.I totally recommend this hotel and you can place it easily wherever you are in the city. It’s surprisingly quiet despite being on the main road and near the station.Only problem was the noise of squeaky floorboards from above us in the morning but it didn’t last long. All staff were lovely and welcoming. If you’re staying on Princess Street then pick this one.

The room was nice, spacious, and fresh. Breakfast was good, and the location was great. However, they tried to charge us twice for breakfast. When we arrived, we paid for two breakfasts, but at checkout, they attempted to charge us again. …

I can't say enough good things about the Old Waverly Hotel. The 'listed' building is charming despite the number of stairs just to reach check-in. The public areas of the hotel are inviting, well-appointed and comfortable.  …

Location is good if you are coming or going by train from Waverley Station. The daytime staff were wonderful and welcoming and the communal area cosy and comfortable. I would also say the breakfast was ok. …

We stayed at this hotel for five nights. It’s in a great location right in the city centre. Many tourist sites are within walking distance. It’s right across the street from the train station, and you can also jump on a tour bus to visit various places. What makes this hotel 5 star is the people! The front desk staff, dining host, bartenders, and housekeepers were friendly and helpful. Todor and his staff were very attentive when we enjoyed the lounge area in the afternoons for a cocktail. They have a really lovely breakfast spread. The main challenge is the stairs to the front desk and drop off and pick up for luggage is in a back alley. However, this is to be expected in a historic building right in a busy downtown area. We hope the owners praise all of the staff for being top notch!!

After reading some of the reviews I was slightly apprehensive, however I was most impressed, the rooms are interesting slightly old but still clean and presentable, what you’d expect in a beautiful old building, my room was clean and the bed was comfortable, as i was staying for work I got roomService for dinner, food was perfect and tasty, Staff were all helpful and breakfast is great. Thanks I’ll be back.

The hotel is fantastic location wise, placed right near Waverley Station which was perfect for me as that's where I was working. As others have stated, there are some stairs to access the reception level and it was difficult carrying all my luggage up. Now I was staying at the start of June so i expected rates to be high, however I genuinely thought I'd receive more for the room rate of almost £250 a night! My room was tiny. A box room. Located high in the building. As it was so high up it was really hot and the window hardly opened. The ac unit was hidden behind a wardrobe and almost impossible to operate. I did think about complaining but was so tired after a long day working that I just had a shower and carried on. The breakfast room was beautiful and breakfast was lovely. Lots of selection and great service.

The staff were friendly but that didn't make up for the fact that this is a tired and old hotel. Not old world charm, just in need of a huge refurbishment. …
