This hostel is a complete gem. Based in the old village school, the owner Lee has turned it into a friendly and comfortable place to stay. From the well-equipped self-catering kitchen to the log burner in the sitting room everything is done just right. The bunks in the dormitories have privacy curtains and the toilet facilities are immaculately clean. This is my preferred stay location for any activities in the southwest Cairngorms. It's very accessible from the main A9 road and is just metres from Dalwhinnie rail station. Very highly recommended.

Amazing place, it feels like home with the cosy living room and the fire.Everything is clean and comfortable and Lee is a most welcoming host ! The view and the landscapes around are breath taking as well, bonus point for all the little rabbits in the field next to the garden 🐇Make a stop in Dalwhinnie on the road to the Highlands just to spend a night at the Old School Hostel 😊We will be back for sure.

Was put in here for a few days when working nearby would usually stay at hostels but would definitely return to the old school. Beautiful layout in each room. Everything you need in the kitchen. Livinroom is very spacious with a roaring fire where most of the guests sit and chat. Lee and his friend made it very welcoming and were very helpful throughout. Spotless clean throughout the hostel. Slept very well in the dorms and far enough away from the livinroom area not to hear anyone at night. Would give the old school 10/10 across the board and will hopefully be returning for a personal trip after changing my Outlook on hostels. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great getaway.
