Trip to Manchester for an appointment, and our honeymoon!Beautiful hotel and room, really helpful and friendly staff. The vegan options in the menu are fab, sadly we only had time for breakfast (which was delicious), we'd love to come back to try a dinner meal.Room was absolutely stunning, very clean, comfortable bed, and good noise reduction from the centre traffic.Good range of room amenities, TV, speaker, sofa, hair dryer, cosmetics.Check-in and checkout were quick and flawless. We would absolutely love to come back!

I’m extremely disappointed. I’ve stayed at The Alan twice now, both for business and the first time I had a lovely room and a great experience, however these last two days have been awful!! I was put on the fourth floor which is fine, but the rooms are tatty and need refurbishing. There is a desk but no desk chair. There were no lights on the ceiling, just lamps by the bed. I was opposite an office block and the windows are clear so you have no choice but to close the curtain but then the room is really dark! One morning there was a hot breakfast laid out buffet style and the next morning, you get told to sit down to order. There is no consistency. The bacon isn’t cooked well and the bread stale. The staff aren’t helpful and look lost most of the time. It wasn’t an enjoyable experience at all! I will not stay here again or recommend it for any business stay whatsoever!

It's a weird place with AWFUL service.I'd echo what the other review said about it seeming half finished and slap dash. The service we got at breakfast was truly abysmal. Rude, surly staff who made you feel like you were extremely unreasonable for making small requests. The waitress in the long leather jacket glared at me when I had the cheek to ask her for some ketchup with breakfast, then just dropped it on our table without looking at us.The whole place seems to sum up the modern attitude towards hospitality: all vibes and no care/attention to actual detail or basics.

Strange place… looks half finished, all done to save costs but dressed up as ‘boutique’. There’s bare (sealed) plaster, exposed conduit etc, mismatched vintage furniture and not even a proper wardrobe just a rail. Dingy bare corridors like you’re in the service area…No carpet in our room just a broken laminate and some dubious looking rugs. Very dark in our room as no main light. One mirror in an inconvenient position. Wet room style bathroom (leaked!). Totally impractical sink with no way to plug and tap that came almost entirely across the sink (looked good but unusable), towel rail right next to the toilet. One lift working, had to pay £50 deposit unexpectedly…that’s once we could get staff to take notice and actually check us in. Location good, curtains good, bed huge and comfortable. Fairly quiet but lots of noise outside from very early on Sun morning. I’ve stayed in lots of boutique hotels but never one that felt like this - felt like 3* at best… on par with a travelodge or cheap B&B. Really unsure how the 4* are justified, having stayed in so many of them in this city - this is much poorer.

In short, avoid it and don’t bother. The rooms “look” nice on the website, but mine was dated, didn’t have enough curtains for the windows (to hide the view of the bins!) no air-con, a shower that required an engineering degree to use and a maze of corridors to find the room. Breakfast was ok, coffee tasted like bin juice. Staff were lovely though, but overall avoid and stay in a premier inn.

Room nice enough. Location great.Service and breakfast, regretfully poor.Upon arriving for breakfast we were told to ‘stand by the wait to be seated sign.’The dining room(s) were almost empty.Numerous staff members walked past us without acknowledgement, carrying dirty plates from other tables. It took us 5 minutes to be directed to, "take a seat on the other side of the room".We were told it was a breakfast buffet only; there was no mention of the other breakfast items (eggs Benedict, for example). After sitting for 15 minutes without any order being taken, we got up to ask if we could order our breakfast + some drinks. Our order was finally taken; it took a further 15 minutes to arrive. The meals we were given had been sat under the hot lamp so long that the eggs were solid and the underside of the muffin was stone-cold.We still had no cutlery or drinks at this point.Upon flagging this, I was told it was fine - it wasn't.Cleaners were sweeping up around us.Staff were more interested in offering drinks to other staff members while we were still waiting for our order to be taken. The continental breakfast was non-existent.They offered to reimburse the breakfast and have to date only refunded half.Logged a complaint directly with hotel almost two weeks ago - still haven’t heard back.Shame as the food and service used to be good. Standards have dropped and now seem to be overly complacent.

Love the hotel, seems quite different, ,unique style compared to most hotels I stayed in the past. I like the simple design. Staff are friendly and approachable, and the place seems relaxing. Breakfast many options and staff taking your order . 4 star as I felt the breakfast seems overcooked for me .

Stayed at The Alan for one night. The room was nice. Large, clean, stylish, beautiful bathroom and it was clean. Very quiet considering it's busy location.Staff were a little bit non attentive, they seemed more interested in their own conversations that they continued having whilst I was standing there. Otherwise check in and check out was smooth, though after 14 days I still haven't received my deposit back which is quite frustrating.Breakfast cooked options were great - I had the florentine, very fresh. The coffee however was diabolical which is such a shame! But nevertheless good value for money and no shortage of coffee options near by.

Was charged £50 when I checked in for the 'deposit' with no warning - thankfully was given back the day after I checked outThe food isn't bad as the burger was nice but the breakfast food was awful. I had the avocado toast and it was extremely lemony and inedible and the coffee was bitter (I did have caramel syrup added to it and hazelnut syrup the second morning- would recommend the hazelnut)In addition, the rooms look cheap. Builders foam is their friend and was a bit disappointed. The events room is extremely warm and doesn't cool down so if you're planning an event, there's a warning. The food for the event had limited choice which was disappointing and the coffee machine was basically water with no coffee. The staff were really nice but don't bother WhatsApp messaging them, they will never respond. Also only 1 lift was working for the hotel which meant it took a while for the lift to arrive. I wouldn't recommend. One plus side was that the conditioner and shampoo smelt amazing and again, the staff were very nice and it's a good location, but I'm not staying here again. Also you will have tram sounds all night and mysterious banging noises outside at 6am but the bed wasn't bad!

About our 5th visit..still a good balance of quality for the money. They do need to up their game on maintenance thoughOne of the lifts wasn't working. And it led to long queues to get to reception. The basic rooms are fine. But we had a very noisy AC fan so not a great night sleep..Will prob still give it another chance though in the hope that it's a one off
