We stayed at Strathness House for one night, as part of a 2-day small coach tour. Our accommodations were arranged by the tour company, so I was unable to check the reviews before we arrived. …

I stayed here with my husband and mother as part of a tour. The rooms were clean and comfortable, we had an amazing view of the river. The biggest downside was the bathroom pipes ran right next to my side of the bed (near my head), so every time my upstairs neighbour flushed or opened the tap I woke up - very loud indeed! As someone pointed out, there is an aroma of Indian food in the corridors, which I really liked - it was quality and homely grub, which opened my appetite. The smell certainly didn't pervade the bedroom. The beds are regular European double size, so for those more used to King and Queen size you'll just have to understand that's the norm in older places.Breakfast is lacklustre, which is a shame because dinner (and I'm sure lunch) is AMAZING. I'd recommend the owners think of adding some Indian goodies to the first meal of the day and make it a huge success - breakfast samosas, anyone?Staff were very friendly and helpful and we felt welcome. I'd have no issue staying here again and highly recommend trying out their restaurant for a main meal.

The staff is friendly and polite. The floor carpet in the room is dirty. The corner shower is very small. If a bigger person tries to take a shower it will be opposite of success. There isn’t A/C in the room and it gets very warm even with 49 F outside temperature. We opened the window for some fresher air, but it is in the central location and you can hear walkers talking while passing by.

We stayed here during our night in Inverness in late April. It was only a short walk from the train station. It is an authentic Scottish experience run by a family. The check in was very efficient.  …

The staff are very lovely, the location is perfect, and you can tell the owners care about their patrons as there were many thoughtful things in the room for you (shampoos, coffees, Kleenex, etc.)The downfall is what people already mentioned and I wish I read before I booked. If you have a sensitivity to scents, this place may not be for you. The restaurant below has delicious food but unfortunately the smell of the dishes reaches all the way up to the top floor and permeates the carpet and some of your personal effects (which you discover once you have left and unpacked again at your next location). On top of that, there was a moth-ball smell that was fighting with the food smell in our room and it made it a bit unpleasant if you're not used to those two things.

It is said this is a 4 star hotel, but it definitely wasn't. It's just a normal bed & breakfast with an indian restaurant in its lobby. And mind you, it's not even separated from the hotel. The actual lobby is a corridor where the waiters need to go through to deliver the food. Also, it had no elevator which was a surprise, and even though they carried our luggage for us to the second floor, it wasn't the best experience. The room was small and outdated, and I believe it would benefit from a refurbishing and a new painting. It also didn't have any plugs near the bedside table, so again, it would be great if they could install them.

Beautiful location and our window looked out onto the river. It was quiet and very comfortable. No lifts but the stairs weren’t too bad. Would stay here again!

This is a beautiful old building in a great location along the river. The staff are very welcoming and helpful … they get 5 stars! But the breakfast is mediocre, the rooms are very small and the showers are impossibly cramped. And there’s no sitting room so you need to leave the hotel for anything but sleeping.

The hotel is in a great location, but the rooms are horribly dated. The wall unit took forever to heat up and only did so when put on max. The shower cubicle is extremely tiny. …

As everyone has already commented, if you don’t want to smell like and Indian takeaway in the morning do not stay here. The restaurant is below all the rooms and the smell wafts up.If you want a shower that is a regular temperature - do not stay here. There is a prehistoric shower heater in the tiniest shower in the world that after 20 minutes of trying to adjust was either completely cold of scalding hot. It’s basically a restaurant that sidelines as an overnight stay. Dreadful cheap pillows and mattress - my neck and back are ruined after one night and I didn’t sleep as it was so uncomfortable. They did allocate a nice room with a view upon my request, but to be honest I didn’t want to be in the room to enjoy the view because of the smell. There is no elevator and some rooms are on the 3rd floor.Only reason for the 2 starts is the location.
