This is a wonderful, wonderful place to stay. My daughter and I stayed in the main house. As you arrive, as well as being met the friendly dogs-of-the-house, the main host - Cat - is interesting and clearly enjoys hosting. …

If you're on the NC500 road trip this is a very convenient spot to overnight before tackling John o'Groats and the north coast road. The A9 is a fairly smooth run until you find the track down to Thrumster House. …

We booked the Garden Apartment for two nights via Airbnb as it offered fantastic value for accomodation for us as a family. We were heading North to get to John O'Groats and Dunnet head and needed a bed for the night before and the following evening. Our apartment was warm, spacious and provided wonderfully comfortable beds and a lovely shower. All which we appreciated after a week of mixed accomodation ranging of a Premier Inn Family room, Youth Hostel and a small cabin. We would definitely recommend this location to anyone heading north.

Old Georgian residence with an impressive staircase and quaint, quirky decor. Two very friendly dogs, Bertie and Dew. Great conversation around the fire with Catherine the host and a glass of whiskey. …

The lodge house was amazing. Comfortable and so cosy. Would definitely recommend for pet friendly accommodation. Catherine our host was great, exceptional customer service and so welcoming. The breakfast was so tasty and the dining room so beautiful. Not to forgot Bert the English setter ☺️As you travel to the house you’re welcomed by a beautiful walking pathway filled with snowdrops on either side

Definitely not your run of the mill bed and breakfast. Big old country house needing a bit of TLC but full of character. The hosts Catherine and Islay were absolutely lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. …

We stayed at Thrumster House during the first week of our walk from John o Groats to Lands End. We are half way through our walk now and still have such good memories of the genuine hospitality from Catherine. …
