STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!I booked this resort based on the really good reviews online. While I don’t expect 5 star luxury from a 3 star resort, I do expect the basics. I booked a premium deluxe cottage as there are only 2 of them, they are the newest rooms at the resort and more expensive. The bed was rock hard and while I have a very firm mattress at home due to my back issues, I did not sleep properly for 7 nights as I woke up every time I turned over. Coupled with an AC that was too small to cool down the size of the room, which after being on turbo and the ceiling fan on high for the entire stay, the room never cooled down to less than 24 degrees celsius. You will also sweat like crazy after taking a shower as there isn’t so much as a fan in the bathroom which has walls and a roof but windows that are an open air concept, so it’s hell hot! The food was really the worst part of all. I definitely did not expect champagne and caviar, but I did expect food that was edible such as chicken that wasn’t completely overcooked and cold rice. Let alone the fish that was “murdered’ it was so dry! The buffets were diabolical! The American owner Danny, had the audacity to holler across the garden while I was addressing my concerns with the Restaurant supervisor sitting outside my cottage saying: “don’t worry, don’t worry”. Not only was that totally disrespectful, patronizing and rude, but he also told me that his team were still recovering from covid when I mentioned that my husband had gone to the dive shop 5 times to rent a camera with no success. It’s nearly the end of 2024 and he’s still using covid as an excuse, it’s just embarrassing! The only saving grace was Sharon, the Restaurant supervisor, that tried desperately to make the best of a terrible situation in terms of the food. If it wasn’t for her we would have checked out after the 2nd night and fought tooth and nail to get our money back. Beware, you are locked into their full prepayment/no cancellation policy once you get closer to your check in date. The only positive was the dive operation which was excellent. So if you don’t mind not sleeping, being hot all the time when you want to relax in your room and losing weight because the food is inedible, then go for the diving and suck it up. Otherwise take your business elsewhere and stay somewhere else!UPDATE 18 SEPTEMBER, 2024:Interesting how the marketing managers reply was filled with drama and fiction. All the things he accused me of. Funny that! I think he has missed his calling and should write children’s books. However I’m really glad that he REACTED in such an unprofessional way rather than responding courteously as his reply is actually more damaging to Murex Manado than my review. LOL 😂 And it’s great because any discerning potential guest will see exactly how things are handled by the supposed management at the resort. Let everyone see this for time immemorial. Good job 👏 I especially like how he defines expecting edible and hot food as a demand. That’s a new one. I’m a man of integrity and live my life with values and principles. Something the marketing manager knows nothing about as he has blatantly lied about a number of things. However it’s his job to protect his boss, the owner, and the reputation of the resort so I guess he is willing to compromise his integrity to do that. Sure the staff are very sweet but when all you want is some edible and hot food to eat and a comfortable bed in a cool room to sleep, the sweetness gets old pretty quickly! Lastly the marketing managers response reeks of HOMOPHOBIC UNDERTONES. So same sex couples beware!

On our trip to Indonesia for snorkeling we stayed at the Murex Manado dive resort. There are many Dive Resorts in this part of Indonesia due to the Bunaken Marine Park (where the snorkeling is awesome - the best we have experience in the world!). We are snorkeler only - not divers so it can be challenging to find a place that provides attention to our specific needs rather than just be tag alongs to a dive expedition.I chose this place because I felt they are set-up to attend to snorkelers as well as divers… and I was right! A lot of resorts on their websites and marketing talk all about the diving expeditions - and as an aside mention that snorkelers can join on the dive boat.

But this resort has specific snorkel expeditions. There were divers staying at this same resort while we were there and they went out in a boat for their excursions. We took a separate boat just for snorkeling and would visit 2-3 different locations each day. There was a snorkel guide who would provide an overview of each location, with the current and what we could expect to see - and he would point out unique marine life as we snorkeled each area. One day we elected to stay out and the lunch was provided on the boat for us.The Murex Manado Resort has beautiful grounds and includes a pond filled with Lotus. Our room had a covered patio with chairs overlooking the gardens. The swimming pool and the dining room overlooks the ocean. The 3 meals served with delicious with many choices, and each employee was friendly and helpful. We will return to this area for snorkeling the Bunaken Marine Park and will definitely book another stay at Murex Manado Dive Resort.

We did a custom Passport to Paradise option with 3 nights at Murex Manado, 3 nights at Murex Bangka, and 6 nights at Lembeh Resort. Custom because we booked Lembeh Resort first and then added Murex. …

Stayed at Murex while competing at a freediving competition organised by Apnea Murex, and I’m POSITIVE that the comfortable stay and 5* service in this family-run resort has contributed to a positive competition result! They have struck the perfect balance between simplicity and comfort, the food is nutritious and of high quality, and I haven’t encountered engaged and well-trained staff quite like this since working in luxury hospitality myself.Massive thank you to Jade, Henry and Julia for the care and attention you put into your work. Terima kasih! Can’t wait to come back!
