Lovely traditional Japanese experience on the edge of Tokyo in a secluded valley. The hotel itself is located across it's own petsonal bridge where you are greeted by the staff. The main onsen has to be booked but all rooms have a small onsen for personal use.The traditional bed was lovely and the breakfast was something else, if not a little too much.

Wow - just Wow! Yama no chaya was the highlight of our Japan trip. Our room was amazing with a gorgeous view of the mountain and a private onsen looking out the mountain as well.Food was delicious - our attendant, Theresa, was very helpful the whole time and described all the food and how to eat it. I believe dinner took ~1.5 to 2 hrs and breakfast was ~30-45 minutes. Happy hour was great - their highball was bubbly and delicious. The Onsens were perfect. We were a bit jetlagged so ended up waking up at 5am, which was a blessing in disguise as we got to watch the sunrise in our private onsen and then checked out all the rest of the public onsens in the morning.Service - next level service. They greeted us before we even got inside. All the staff were extremely friendly the whole time. Again, Theresa was great - she showed our room around and gave us a tour of the facilities. Can't wait to go back and check out the other rooms!

One of the most exceptional experiences we’ve had in Japan, and well worth the price. The best part was experiencing the outdoor onsens while enjoying the beautiful nature the area has to offer. The food was amazing, and the bus stop for the Hakone loop is conveniently located nearby.

Just had a wonderful two night stay here. Would love to return again. Super relaxing experience. The baths were beautiful and service was excellent. The kaiseki meals were fantastic and never left us hungry. Our room had a private bath with a view—which was also great. Bus stop right across the bridge from the establishment is also a plus.

My partner and I (from Canada) had an incredible experience at Yama No Chaya. I would recommend this place to my closest friends, the only downside was that we wish we booked a longer stay.Hong was the staff that looked after us for the majority of the stay, and she was absolutely a delight. This was our first time in Japan and at a ryokan. We booked only one night due to our overall short schedule, but it was still wonderful and relaxing. The room is large, and they convert it from the dining set up to beds at night time after dinner. Meals (dinner and breakfast for us) are served in the room, and are elaborate and extensive. The foods are delicious& unique, and even I had several things that I have never eaten before. Understandably, you should have an open mind with their cuisine and culture if you’re used to a more plain palate. The chef that designs the menu is a Michelin star rated chef with restaurants all over Asia.We had a private onsen as an ensuite to our room, but we also had a complimentary 45 minute session at one of the other ones upon our arrival (only 8 time slots so first-come first serve). As for transport, we came in from Osaka via a Shinkansen to odawara station. I saw routes for local buses and a train to Hakone-Yamote station, followed by a short walk. We just took a small taxi all the way to the hotel for 3700yen, which we felt was worth it. Otherwise there is a wooden bridge and steep incline/driveway that you’d have to walk up with your driveway.I also want to thank Hong for going above and beyond. We changed our train time the morning-of to an earlier one, and when a taxi was not available, Hong was able to have one of the staff members drop us off free of charge to Hakone-Yamote station.Overall, everything was excellent and we can’t wait until our next stay.

We had an amazing two night stay here in late April. It is situated in a wooded area which lends to great views from anywhere in the hotel, whether it is from the cozy bar area or from the open air private baths in the rooms. Definitely a great place to unwind and relax. The multi-coursed meals, served in your room, feels like you are dining at a high end restaurant. What really made our stay outstanding was the service. Our assigned attendant, Sandeep, went above and beyond while we were there! Attentive, friendly, and accommodating would be understatements. Highly recommend.
