It was terrible, we could not fall asleep. Sleeping on the floor of the wolden house is not a best idea. You can hear every step and move!! Also futons were hard and not comfy. Not to mention moulds around the walls. It was bit smelly and wet. For 600USD it was a rip off. You could have night in Four Seasons and still save some money 😅

This place is so amazing. If you want the traditional experience this is it.As soon as you check in a traditional Japanese welcome and straight into the slippers. Our room (Sukura 4) felt like what you imagine in the movies. Tatame mats, rice paper sliding doors, and a view of the rushing rivers right beneath us.If you want to record voice overs in the room forget it. The white noise of the river is constant and awesome. My 14yo son booked a private onsen because, well… he’s 14 and doesn’t want to deal with old dudes and their tackle.I went to the “public” (just for guests) and it was empty anyway - so sweet. The water was at least 40 degrees Celsius. Apparently the Ryokan cools it down from an insane 60 degrees. I was in for 15 minutes and that was plenty. My wife and daughter used the remainder of time in my son’s private onsen as he only lasted 15mins himself. Our dinner was brought to our room by the lovely Akiko who just kept bring dish after dish. All of it was amazing.Akiko then set up our futon beds after packing down the dining tables. So good. An absolute highlight of our time in Japan.

Tourists and visitors beware! We were scheduled for a 3 night stay and could barely make it through one night. While the staff was very friendly, and the food good, the whole building is falling apart and riddled with mold. The place looked like it hadn’t been cleaned or maintained in 20+ years. Dust in every corner, walls crumbling, mold and other stains on all the bathroom and onsen surfaces, the smell of mildew everywhere. My partner and I quickly changed plans after waking up feeling sick from how dirty and smelly our room was. I’m really not sure how this place has so many outstanding reviews. While it may be a part or Japanese Onsen history, no one is taking care of it and no one should be allowed to stay here until they make the building healthy and mold free. It’s borderline a biohazard!

It's a beautiful location, but unfortunately, it is not well-maintained. Some of the onsen facilities are in urgent need of repair, and the bathrooms are far from spotless. While walking around the ryokan, it was easy to spot dust and spider webs, including one in our room.I was also disappointed with the quality of the dinner. While the meat was decent, the fish seemed either old or poorly cooked.

Beautiful location right on the river. We had such a great view from our Seseragi room. Private onsen near the room too. The staff were so welcoming and accomodating in one of the best ryokans!!

This is a lovely traditional ryoken, creaking wood adds to the experience. This is situated next to a river so a river view room is a must. Leave your shoes at the door and throw yourself fully into this experience. …
