The location of the hotel is great; everything we wanted to do was either within walking distance or we could easily catch a bus by walking less than 5 minutes. I will note that we stayed on weekday nights and heard some of the bar activity early in the morning. Your experience may vary on a weekend (but if you like bar hopping then this is 100% the place to stay)The bath and shower were both pretty spacious compared to other hotels we stayed at on our trip. The AC and air purifier both did a good job of keep the room comfortable. We did not like the pillows provided but used our own travel pillows combined with the provided pillows to sleep comfortably enough. What made Kyoto Gion Hotel a great place to stay was the staff. Hands down, the friendliest, hardest working, and most helpful staff at any hotel I have ever stayed at. We had our bags shipped here from our previous hotel and the gentleman who checked us in had already placed our bags in our room when we arrived. We needed to extend our check out by an hour and there was no issue resolving that. Finally, and by far the biggest help, we shipped our bags from here to Narita Airport and the woman working the desk that morning filled out each packing slip for our suitcases, then called the airport and verified where in the airport we would need to go.Very glad we found this hotel and we will be staying again if we return to Kyoto.

Because cleaning is the most important thing in a hotel I am giving this star cause when I first came, there were stains and hairs in the toilet so I asked them to clean the all room but I stayed 8 nights in there and at the end of the 8 th day hairs and stains was in the same spot they didn't even touch it ! Also the room was dirty. And the room and hotel smell damp.If they fix the cleaning issue hotel is so lovely. The design is nice. And for the location it is the best 3 min to yasaka shrine.

affordable and amazing location but too many negatives:- room covered in (other people’s) hair and no cleaning; just towel replacements (which seems to be standard in Japan and wouldn’t bother me if the room had been clean in the first place)- no blinds or shades in the rooms which are very brightly lit so no sleeping past 5:30 am- the AC is placed directly above the bed head, so no matter how you place the vane it’ll still hit you directly, and it drips water at night directly onto your head and pillow (the reception lady’s suggestion was that I “cover up”) - so we had to sleep with the AC off in a heatwave in August.

The hotel was spacious and well kept, they had plenty of amenities as well as a washing machine, smoking area. More than you need for a home base! Check in was strange lobby was on 2nd floor, however staff were friendly. Great washing machine however did not dry your clothes

Not possible to sleep after 6.30 cause rooms has no curtains, not possible to ask assistance to the staff cause no one speaks English. This in one of the most touristy areas in one of the most touristy cities in the planet.

One of my favourite hotels during my trip! We paid SGD120 per night in December 2023 and it was great value considering the location. …

Location was great, easy to find with Google Maps of course. Room was small but had all the essentials. Clean. Staff english was passable. District was a little Red Light tone but safe. …

Hotel room is small but well-equipped for a casual traveller. Heater works well in keeping the room warm from the cold weather. …

I was not able to sleep in the room, The windows have no shades and the room is brightly illuminated by street lights the entire night ( see picture ). The hotel staff made me wait until midnight before finally offering me another room. Loud noises were also emitted from the ventilation system. I hope the hotel staff will fix the rooms so it won't happen to other people.
