We stayed two nights here as we planned to visit Tashirojima (cat island). The hosts were very friendly and hospitable and the ryokan itself is perfectly clean and well maintained. The location also couldn’t be better. We hope to come back!

I chose the Kikuchi because it was very close to the port to the Cat Island (Tashirojima). The owners were very friendly and hospitable. The room in the Annex Building was spacious and clean. I loved the dinner and breakfast served there. The owner kindly kept my luggage while I stayed overnight at the Cat Island. I would definitely book again if I visit Ishinomaki again. Highly recommended ryokan!

Owner was very friendly and accommodating to our language barrier. Even though the owner was not able to speak English and had to converse with a Google translator, he was very patient and funny. He also had complimentary carpark lot for us when we check out and had to spend a day at Tashirojima. Oh yah, not forgetting he also helped us enquire whether the ferry goes to Tashirojima (Cat Island) on the day as i found out that the ferry services do cancel trips if it was raining.Must stay if you’re going Tashirojima.

My friend and I decided to go up to Ishinomaki for a trip to Cat Island and settled on Kikuchi Ryokan after seeing it was about halfway between the station and the ferry, 15 minutes on foot either way. Very convenient.  …

We booked here on a whim. The owner was very fast-talking and it was hard for us to understand him, but there is English correspondence available. Owners were very friendly upon our arrival, the room was quite spacious for the two of us, and the meals served to us were absolutely delicious (and healthy/balanced!). We were driven by the owner to the ferry port for Tashirojima without even inquiring about it beforehand (he offered because he was taking two other girls already).Overall a very quaint, modernized traditional stay, and were we to return to the area we would book there again in a heartbeat. It was very comfortable, even on futons which I normally can't stand, and fairly cozy even in January.

Absolutely amazing. I don't speak any Japanese at all but the owners were EXTREMELY accommodating and helpful. It was like being welcomed home.Despite language barrier, owner showed me how everything in the room worked and was very patient.Room was superb quality, extremely clean and spacious. Also very quiet.I have nothing bad to say. Absolutely wonderful! The next morning when I left everyone walked me out and gave me directions to my next destination.

An absolute gem of a place! We were looking for somewhere to stay at the very last minute and luckily there was room for us. The folks who run it are fantastic and so welcoming. We had breakfast the next and it was just what we needed to set us up for the day; delicious home cooked food- very simple but it was just perfect. Thank you so much for your hospitality, you made our stay in Ishinomaki unforgettable.

I booked one night here for a day trip to Tashirojima Island. The husband and wife hosts are fantastic! Even though I checked in past 10PM and woke the owner up, he was still very kind and understanding. He gave me directions for where I needed to go and also let me store my bags there after checkout.I got a room in the Annex building because the Main building was full. The room is clean and is a modern take on the traditional Japanese ryokan. There are english instructions for everything. There’s also a heater/ac and TV in the room.I also purchased breakfast, which was delicious and healthy. For dinner, I ate at the sushi restaurant right next door.I will definitely stay here again next time I visit Ishinomaki!

I came to see Tashirojima (the cat island) planning to make it a day trip, except due to unfortunate circumstances I had to stay the night in this town unexpectedly (although it did not turn out to be unfortunate in the end, I'd say). I kinda walked in, no reservation, but the old man of the place seemed more than willing to help me out to stay, even going so far as attempting to use what English he had despite my indication of rudimentary Japanese comprehension. Breakfast the morning after was also quite the deal for just an extra 700 yen, a mackerel teishoku (set meal with rice and miso soup) I think, and it was ready for me when I came downstairs. The room itself was a comfortable tatami mat space, though the pillow was not quite what I'm used to; it seemed to be filled with balls of some sort, although it's definitely better than a pillow which your head just falls through.
