Such a beautiful little inn and so quiet and peaceful. The price was very affordable and the staff were so warm and welcoming. Everything was clean and there are such homely details like free coffee and refreshments, tea in the room, a basin in the room, and wonderful shared bath facilities. The neighbourhood was so beautiful and perfectly out of the hustle and bustle.Try the small curry shops and little restaurants nearby- they are small, warm and very peaceful. This is the place to stay in Tokyo, especially if you want to feel rested.

This family-owned guesthouse is a very nice way to experience Tokyo in a different way compared the big, soulless hotels that you can find in any city. Here, you can feel the love, care and attention that the owner family puts into their establishment. It is a serene place to come "home" to after having spent long days in the city.We especially liked sleeping in the bedding on the tatami mats, the traditional way - so comfortable! Will definitely come back if our travels take us to Tokyo again.

My wife and I decided to use Sawanoya Ryokan as a base for our visit to Tokyo. We couldn't have made a better choice. The ryokan is located in a beautiful area, one of the few to have remained intact over the last century, remaining authentic. It is also closed to Nippori station, being easy to be reached from Narita Airport, and to Nezu metro station. The rooms are clean and furnished in a traditional Japanese way, giving you a unique experience for a foreigner visiting the country. In addition, we found the rooms really comfortable: the futons used are very comfortable, allowing you to sleep well. Every two days the sawa family provides a yukata night robe for each guest. Putting it on after a hot bath was awsome. We stayed a few nights in the room with bathroom and one night in the room with shared bathroom. In both cases they were very clean and comfortable. Moreover, the shared bathrooms have beautiful hot tubs in front of a garden with goldfish. Resting at the end of the day in a place like this was a unique experience. Finally the aspect that we appreciated the most: the professionalism and infinite kindness of the Sawa family that runs the Ryokan. Each member of the family is always ready to advise you on what to do and to help you have a pleasant experience in their ryokan. After a long day in Tokyo we felt like we were coming “home”. If I were to return to Tokyo I would definitely book with them again.

I loved this family run Ryokan. It is quiet, clean and cosy and the family most welcoming. I also enjoyed the japanese breakfast. Would highly recommend overall! I stayed here solo and the room had enough space for me and my big luggage. That is not always given in Japan.

I had an amazing stay at Ryokan Sawanoya! The family running the ryokan was incredibly accommodating and made us feel right at home. The neighborhood is full of local flavor, with plenty of restaurants and shrines nearby, making it perfect for walking around and soaking in the authentic Tokyo atmosphere. The tatami rooms were exceptionally comfortable—so much so that it was hard to get up in the mornings! The ryokan itself is well-maintained and beautifully traditional, providing an immersive Japanese experience.Overall, I highly recommend Ryokan Sawanoya for anyone looking to experience a traditional stay in Tokyo with the warmth of a welcoming family and the charm of a local neighborhood

We absolutely loved our 4 night stay at Ryokan Sawanoya. The Sawa family is wonderful and keeps the charming ryokan welcoming and spotless. The stay will be memorable for us and was the perfect place for our Tokyo adventure.I enjoyed their recommended spots so much!! The Yanesen area has so many cute coffee places, amazing noodle restaurants and the best rice cracker shops. Plus the ryokan is near a few mins walk to a train line which made getting around super easy.

I absolutely loved this ryokan. Run by a quietly attentive family, the accommodation and service offered gave insights into traditional Japanese life that are unlikely in a hotel.  …
