Such a wonderful hostel in a spectacular location. We arrived on a very wet day and quite a few people had been driven off the hills and were catching a brew before heading out again. Great camaraderie in the common room. …

I was run/walking the coast to coast section from St Bees to Shap. I had every intention of camping (as I had all my stuff with me) however when I got as far as Ennerdale YHA and looking at the weather coming in, I decided to put my fait in …

Stayed here in July and had such a wonderful experience. The hostel is located in such a beautiful area with a fantastic view of the valley and Pillar. They have an honesty shop with everything at a decent price. The rooms felt very comfortable to stay in and I never felt like I was unsafe. The manager Steve is a great fella who really looks after you. I found him always happy to have a chat and make your stay as comfortable as possible!

Stayed here for about a week in June and it was AMAZING! It's 30-40 minutes from the nearest town, so if you want to make your own food, get groceries before going, especially if you don't have a rental car. The full English breakfast you can get from them was delicious, and the dinners they served were so nice to have after traveling for awhile and exploring all day. You can also purchase various drinks from them for decent prices, and the raspberry cider was delicious! Very nice common area with views over the valley, and of the bird feeders where you could see pretty birds and cute squirrels all day. Some very nice hiking paths nearby and everything was SO PRETTY! Beautiful area and it was nice to be disconnected from cell service for a few days and just relax, read, and explore. One recommendation I have is to remember to check yourself thoroughly for ticks after you hike in the area. I had one I didn't notice until the day after I got it because I hadn't even thought to check for them. Luckily didn't catch anything from it but I was nervous for a few days. The staff were so kind and helpful with any questions and recommendations. I would totally stay here again, and HIGHLY recommend it to anyone planning to visit the area!

3rd day on our coast to coast walk, we were wet, both had injuries had no sleep after camping in the valley below the black sail. The mist on the mountains was so dense with our experience we thought it was to dangerous to carry on. Our morale was very low.We hobbled back 3 1/2 miles to the youth hostel were we had been a day earlier. Steve and Anthony at the youth hostel really looked after us, we dried out, we were fed very well, met some great people and stayed the night in the barn. We woke up with spirits high and After breakfast we decided to continue with our adventure which we completed 2 weeks later. We put this down to both Steve and Anthony who lifted our spirits immensely. Thank you both, we really appreciate how much you did for us we will definitely come and see you again soon. Dave & Jo.

Steve and Anthony were amazing hosts, have us some great recs to add as stop offs on our route including some gorgeous infinity pools along the descent to Buttermere lake as well as jumping to the rescue in removing a very tiny tic from my friend! The view from the hostel was also gorgeous and it had a really friendly atmosphere. Can’t wait to plan our next stay!
