Although it is a bit of a walk from Balham station that is the only negative. This is a well-priced, comfortable and relaxing place to stay in South-East London which is a desert of simple, inexpensive lodgings. The room was beautifully decorated and had everything required - including free wifi - and the people at reception were just lovely. There was a great Italian "cafe and reading room" only three blocks away for breakfast and a wide choice of places to eat in the evening, on Balham High Street.

A wonderful lodge in so many ways: clean rooms, welcoming staff, good location in Balham, right next to Tooting common, and all at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend Balham lodge to you. Rooms go quickly so you need to book in advance. 5 stars.

I was so hopeful when I arrived, the outside and reception areas were clean and pleasant; the location was perfect for visiting my son, who lives in Balham. …

Woken up early morning by traffic noise the thin blinds do not help keep out the cold or noise. My room was on the 4th floor as this is in a residential area there is no lift. One teabag supplied each day plus coffee sachets sugar & milk. No need to change towels daily or service rooms every single day. Bus stop right outside takes you into balham or is is a 15min walk. Alot of slamming of doors which is quite unnecessary. Reception by the main door feels like as a guest I am been monitored.

We booked a ground floor room mainly because my 94 y/o mother struggles with stairs. We were allocated a first floor room. I complained to the inadequate man in charge on our arrival but he offered no solution to the problem. …

Small shower very difficult for larger people. Mattress very old and uncomfortable. Cleanliness, staff, and location were great. 10 minute walk to train or catch bus outside of door. No longer serves breakfast Laundry service on site was useful. Enjoyed our stay.

Very nice building. Single room was quite small but worked for one person. The bathrooms are very small though, difficult to shower in them. The home is old and you tend to hear every movement your neighbors make, but that comes with the territory, as someome else mentioned, bring ear plugs. Price is nice as well. A nice 10-15 minute walk to the tube and food/pubs/shopping. On the northern line which is very convenient and also offers national rail service. Staff was friendly, although you have to buzz to get in and I felt guilty waking up the desk staff coming back from three nights of wedding events.

Not very clean!!! On a first glance it looks clean but you soon start noticing it is not! In the bathroom there were long black hairs which were definitely not mine! Dust all over and in the bedding there were obvious dirt. I had to toss it up and I wished I didn’t! Dust and dirt all over.Additionally, the front door gets locked at 5pm and you have to ring a bell to be allowed in. I found this very annoying and I was not made aware when booking in.The stuff is very attentive and polite. The size of the room is decent but for the price point I expected more.
