We were booked in as wedding guests for a one night stay over. The meet and greet person behind the bar was at best disinterested and dismissive and at worst, rude. Not a good first impression.  …

We stayed last night for a wedding nearby and the room was very warm, cozy and clean and good value for money with breakfast included. When we turned up we weren’t greeted with the most friendly of staff and seemed to not know when breakfast was and when to check out etc. Some of the other guests missed breakfast because of this miscommunication. I do understand the building is very old but the walls were very thin to the point where you could hear full conversations in other rooms. But overall it was a lovely room and great breakfast in the morning (especially to accommodate a food allergy) but a few things need touching up.

First impressions this was going to be a 5 star review, however ... there were three of us staying for two nights, two in the building and one in the external rooms. …

Stayed one night as a stop off to Cornwall. Lovely pub, food was great, breakfast was great. Room was a good size, could do with a good dust (a few high up cobwebs) and the room didn't appear to be made up for the right number of people but was fine for just 1 night

As a party of 16 we booked an evening meal here for September 19th over 2 months before our stay nearby. We were sent the menu so that we could inform the Anchor exactly what each person wanted for starter, mains and dessert and this was done promptly and the order sent back. Two days before we were due to eat there, the person who had organised the meal contacted the Anchor by phone to check everything was still O.K. She was assured it was.Our party turned up and ordered drinks in the bar beforehand. Ordering took ages and we were disappointed that the pub had run out of cabernet sauvignon. Not the end of the world ..... but it was a portent of what was to come. An hour later we were shown to our seats.Imagine our consternation when we were then told, despite the assurances only 2 days before, that none of the things that we had ordered months before were available and we would have to order from the totally different, and much poorer, menu that they were now using. It was too late to find somewhere else to eat so reluctantly we stayed and placed new orders. Soon after ordering, the waitress came out to say some of us would need to change our orders as they hadn't got sufficient prawn starters or fish and chips as a mains. We were less than impressed but felt sorry for the waitress being sent out repeatedly to give us bad news. The meal was edible, nothing out of the ordinary. Then we asked for the bills which we had asked to be done by couple. Every single one was incorrect. There was also a mysterious "extra dish" charged on each bill of varying amounts. When this was queried we were told they didn't know how else to put on a srvice charge!!!! It was absolutely unbelievable. One total mess up after another after another.Based on our experience this establishment should not be in business. Atrocious management that would have made Fawlty Towers look good. None of our group would ever consider returning. It was a memorable evening but for all the wrong reasons. I still can't quite believe it.

Do NOT stay here!! Honestly the worst place I’ve ever stayed. No hot water, the toilet wouldn’t flush and there were bugs in the bath, which initially I thought were dead but when I turned the shower on they started jumping!!!! …

Very misleading as we booked a nice room in the pub and we got a cabin in the car park. Tiny room, same price as in the pub. With a broken bed and side lamp bulb gone. They clearly pay no attention to the maintenance of the rooms. Complained and we were moved into the pub. Lovely room in the pub (apart from the cable ties holding the shower together), but the music in the bar was ridiculously loud until 9pm. I complained, as did a neighbour across the road, it was that loud. Such a shame as this pub is nice and breakfast was great. But it seems like the current owners are not getting the most out of it. The one shining light was the girl working while we were there. She was very professional throughout. We won’t be returning and we wouldn’t recommend.
