Just loved the Robert Louis Stevenson history, and having the great view of the Firth. Loved the bathroom - actually big enough to move around in! …

I didn't even make it to the hotel to give them a proper review, because of their bad customer service on the phone pre-stay.My flight arrives around 10PM tomorrow, so I was hoping to arrive at the hotel around 11PM, however I wasn't a 100% sure that this would be possible because of the time at the airport to pass through customs, and the time to pick up my rental car and drive to the hotel. As the hotel indicates on Booking.com, check-in can only be done until 10PM, but I thought that it would be possible to check in later with a special request. Only yesterday(!) they contacted me to let me know that I had to call them to ask for a later check-in. I called today at 9:30AM (British time), but they didn't accept my request. They told me that they can stay until 11PM, and if I don't arrive before, I will be in front of a closed door: I found this really bad customer service. I asked to wait until 11:30PM maximum, but they refused. So basically, I had to cancel my booking, but I had to pay a cancellation fee. I called them with a request to cancel the fee I had to pay, but they refused again. So refusal after refusal after refusal: really bad customer service! And when you say that it's the first time you had such an experience with a hotel, they tell you that it's a pub and not a hotel, which is not really clear, as they call themselves (on their own website!): "The Hawes Inn Hotel in Edinburgh". So for all future guests: think twice before booking at this hotel. It could be possible that the service during the stay is good, but pre-stay it's not good at all!

It was wonderful. Room was clean and spacious with a fantastic view. Bathroom facilities were also good. Long wait for drinks whilst dining but the food was also excellent. Enjoyed talking with the stylish lady in charge. The young man at the bar was also lovely, well mannered and helpful. I would definitely recommend and would return 😊

We had stayed at the Hawes inn quite a few times in previous years and with the new renovations were keen to stay again but we were very disappointed. …

Inside appearance of everything was outstanding. It's difficult with baggage to get to many rooms, including ours. Staff was friendly, especially the breakfast who assisted us at breakfast - she's a jewel! Food selection was good at dinner at breakfast. The only irritation - and it's very irritating - is that I was charged separately for gin and tonic water. If that's to pay for the expensive tonic water machine, I would have requested a plain tonic water out of a bottle. If that's the practice for all mixed drinks, I would have ordered beer or wine. At the very least, customers should be informed of this double hit when ordering. I would have ordered differently if I had known I was essentially being double charged for a mixed drink.

The location of the Hawes Inn was fantastic, staff were lovely and the breakfast was delicious.Unfortunately the noise from the cars outside with the pops and bangs that went on till very late wasnt very good, and the guests opposite us who checked out at 4am with talking and banging doors didn't help at all with having a decent nights sleep, I had to get up to ask them to be quiet it was unacceptable to be making so much noise at that time of the morning. Maybe a note to ask people to please keep the noise down and respect other guests could be put up or put inside the rooms.

We really enjoyed our stay. An old Inn with history and big beautiful rooms. It is true that on some nights there are a lot of kids hanging out by the water but other than the off loud revving car they were not bother to us at all. By the time we were heading to bed the peace and quiet was restored. I would definitely stay here again. I also just wanted to mention how lovely all the staff were, they really help with our great experience.
