The hostel is basically a former farm estate located in quite large park off any thru traffic routes. The overall setting is nice, the main house is in a well maintained condition. …

My partner and I stayed here during our NC500 trip. This was the first time I stayed in a hostel, and I can see why it was so cheap. We ended up with a twin room with two single beds because it was the only option left, so it wasn't a great start. The room was ok, but quite cold even with the radiator on max.The mattresses were terrible. They were thin, and the springs in them proved no support. For my partner, this meant he could feel the bed frame under him when he led on the bed.The showers weren't great. They're push button, which stops water waste from people leaving them on, but it was frustrating having to keep pressing the button to keep the shower going when mid-wash.There was one toilet for all the rooms near us (10+). A guy who I went to use the toilet after left the whole room smelling terrible. Some sort of extraction fan or automatic spray device would have been very appreciated because it stank. I was considering going all the way down to the showers in the night to use the toilet, but it was very cold down there, with bare concrete floors on the way.The surround areas are lovely, but I won't want to stay here again.

Absolutely great place. I had the deluxe double room which was absolutely huge and beautiful. Really clean and comfortable. We got a great welcome and were shown all around. We didn't eat there but there are options. Beautiful location as well.

Lovely location, nestled between mountains and a surrounding forest. We had a triple room. The facilities were great, communal cooking space, laundry facilities, loads of toilets, a lounge etc.The lady at the reception was very nice. The room was very nicely done, as was the bathroom, however the room was very cold and a little damp. The bathroom had a good amount of black mold surround the window and on the edges of the ceiling. The radiator in the room also didn't work soit was cold...Wasn't bad as per say but the black mold and damp is a very big issue and the cold isn't great...(without this I would have rated it much higher).PS. very sustainability focused which is personally really like and is a very good thing!

I can't praise this place highly enough. I was there as part of the Pancelticrace. After 11 days cycling over 2000km I was exhausted and suffering. ||As soon as I arrived Grace at reception treated me like a relative. …

We really enjoyed our stay here on cycle tour after crossing the pass. Our private double room was nicer than some of the b&bs and hotels we stayed at. Great bike storage and very friendly staff!

Pros: Perfect location on NC500. Lots of wild life and hiking routes around.Cons:Unreachable staff after hours. We arrived at the hostel around 9.30, they were supposed to leave us two room keys but they forgot to leave one of them. I tried reaching them thorough the emergency number and booking, but they didn’t respond. We ran into one of the off-duty staff in a nearby inn by pure luck and she (thank you so much!) helped out. I know it is a hostel and I shouldn’t expect much, but rooms were cold and the beds were super uncomfortable with springs popping in our backs. The halls and kitchen were smelly.

I was glad to see Hartfield House after an 80-mile ride in from Inverness! I received a warm welcome and was shown to the bike storage, drying room and my single accommodation in an annex. Everything was clean and tidy. There was food to buy in reception and a fully equipped kitchen to cook it in before eating it in the TV lounge. This is an excellent hostel and perfect for the solo cyclist.

We stayed here end of May this year. What a splendid place. This is a really nice Hostel and our Twin Room was just perfect.Shower area etc. were clean and the kitchen was super.Breakfast though was on the first thought a little disappointing - just two croissants each. But, we were spoiled. The days before we had every morning a full Scottish breakfast.Serious: we had two fresh baked, delicious croissants. Super service!!We will return!!
