We recently stayed in Suite 1 at The Fig Tree Hotel in Markinch, and while the room itself was pleasant, a few inconveniences left us with a disappointing experience.**Room:**The suite was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Positioned directly above the pub, I was initially concerned about noise, but it turned out to be surprisingly quiet, allowing for a peaceful night’s rest. The décor was tasteful, and the bed was comfortable, making it a welcoming space after a long day.**Issues with Hot Water:**Unfortunately, the biggest drawback of our stay was the lack of hot water on our first night and most of the following morning. This was especially inconvenient as we were preparing for a wedding. However, the staff did their best to rectify the situation by offering us access to another room so we could take a hot shower, which was a helpful gesture.**Breakfast Discrepancy:**One thing we looked forward to was the breakfast offering mentioned in the welcome book, which highlighted a bacon or egg roll. However, on both mornings, only toast and cereal were available. This was a bit disappointing, as we were expecting more based on the provided information.**Housekeeping:**Another downside was that the room wasn’t cleaned, nor were fresh towels provided during our stay. Given the price and expectation for a suite, we would have expected at least a quick tidy-up or towel refresh.**Overall Experience:**While the room itself was lovely, the issues with hot water, the incomplete breakfast offering, and lack of housekeeping left us feeling underwhelmed. The Fig Tree Hotel has potential, but unfortunately, our stay was marred by these inconveniences.

Good welcome from staff on our arrival. Our room was very clean and beautifully decorated. Towels were soft and fluffy and the bathroom had a clean fresh smell. Bed was comfortable and sheets & pillows were soft and warm. …

I recently stayed at this hotel and was left thoroughly disappointed. First of all, the advertising is completely misleading. They boast about luxurious amenities, but in reality, the shower facilities are subpar at best. The water pressure was terrible, and the temperature fluctuated constantly, making it nearly impossible to enjoy a decent shower. The management is another issue—they're dishonest and seem completely unbothered by the state of their hotel. I brought up several concerns, and while they agreed to refund me due to the poor experience, I'm still waiting for that refund weeks later with no resolution in sight. The noise levels are unbearable. Every night, there was loud music and shouting until the early hours of the morning, making it impossible to get any sleep. It felt more like a nightclub than a hotel. The cleanliness of the hotel is appalling. The floors were filthy, and worst of all, they didn’t even bother to change the bed sheets! It was obvious that the room hadn’t been properly cleaned before my stay. All in all, this place is a disaster. Avoid it if you value cleanliness, honesty, and a good night's rest. And don’t trust their refund promises—I'm still waiting for mine!

Staff great from the second we arrived, we arrived late due to train issues but they were very friendly and helpful the entire stay. Had an issue with our shower one morning but this was fixed same day so can’t complain at all, would stay again 👍

We booked a room that had a bath in the middle a the room and we messaged them when we booked it to double check that was the room we had and they confirmed. We turned up and they said someone has been staying in that room for 3 weeks and then said the bath was broken so which one was true? Also said they served food til 2pm and when we got there they said the chef doesn’t work here anymore. The shower was like a drip and I’m not exaggerating and it was freezing into the bargain. Bathroom door wouldn’t open properly. The only draft beer they had was tennents and they had to phone the manager because my girlfriend asked a cocktail. Music was played very loud all night so couldn’t get to sleep. Only saving grace were the bar staff who were very helpful

Very tired rooms and a poor experience. The bathroom is in particular poor condition with dirty shower head (and very low pressure), damaged floor, cracked shower panel and loose toilet seat. The bedroom had one broken and one missing bulb in the light fitting. The curtain was thin and did not reach the length of the room allowing light in. There was no handbook to advise if there was a breakfast service (don’t think there was) or what the check out procedure was. The WiFi did not work and there was no number to call once the staff finished at 6. I also noted that the front door appeared to be open all night. In the morning there were no staff around when I went to check out at 8am so had to leave my key in the room. Overall a very poor experience.

Worst hotel experience, an absolute disgrace considering the price point. ||Upon entering room, window wide open and rain beating in. |Rolled back bed duvet to find sheets not fully clean. …

In my opinion this is not a hotel. It is a pub with rooms. I would not consider it to be boutique. The room did not live up to this. Putting a fancy tap in the en- suite( so you can’t fill the kettle) does not make it boutique.  …

Spent a pleasant couple of nights here in the Bethune room . Double room with big comfy bed that looks out onto the High Street . This means you do hear the traffic but as it’s a small village not a problem for me . …

We had food here. Could not fault the service and the server made sure we always had enough drinks etc but the food was a little disappointing. Macaroni was so bland and dry. There was nothing cheesy about it. …
