To be honest the exterior of the guesthouse is looking really scruffy, they need to smarten this up. The location is slightly away from the harbour on the through road.||BUT, none of this should put you off staying here. …

We came for dinner on Saturday night with our dog and baby. Staff were lovely and gave us a table in the lounge / bar. Service good, restaurant lovely however my meal was not good at all. I ordered chicken, bacon and leek pie which came and had no bacon in it. It lacked sauce and looked like a freezer reheat to be honest. The icing on the cake was when biting into the chicken it was black. 4 pieces in my pie were bad. Saved these and passed to staff who weren’t happy and went to speak with chef. Staff Offered to take my meal off the bill which was good I suppose, but didn’t help the fact being hungry and not being able to enjoy dinner. Any other restaurant would have offered something else or waived the bill completely, this did not happen. Of the dinner I did eat (before noticing the chicken) I am paying for it today - really not well. Wouldn’t rush back here in a hurry :( gutted to be honest as online photos look brill. Bit of a downer for our Saturday night treat on holiday.

Lovely ground floor suite (room 6) - probably the former bank managers office overlooking the street - with a smaller extra room at the back for watching TV, looking out to the beach behind. The hotel has a dining room with terrific views to the beach, and a lively bar area. Staff were all very kind and helpful.

The hotel is not overlooking the harbour but only a short walk away. We booked a twin room based on the lovely pictures on the website and really looked forward to a treat. When we arrived we were taken past an entrance which looked like nice accommodation with an attractive hallway. Unfortunately we were taken to a second doorway and what looked like ‘overflow’ accommodation (I think room 18) There was no hallway here just a winding stairwell that smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, our room was at the top in the attic. Windows were old painted, rotted and appeared dangerous, the furniture dated, room dark and the twin beds short and narrow. The room had been newly painted and carpet cheap and threadbare. On the whole accommodation was very poor and not worth the money £130 per night. We were told the room next to ours could be used as a common room but looked and smelled more like a smoking area. Either this place was used to house homeless people or transient staff. I was asked by the hotel to leave a review on their site which needless to say they didn’t publish. I think it’s important though to be truthful so people aren’t ripped off and know what to expect.

This is our 4th visit to Anstruther and The Bank, however on this visit I was very disappointed. |The menu was very small. My starter haggis bonbons was overdone and sauce was not nice. |My main a prawn cocktail, was lovely. …

We stayed in room 27B, it's a ground floor room with patio doors on to a small courtyard. Unfortunately it's right beside the kitchen and the noise and smell of stale oil from the extractor fan filled the room.  …

The Bank Hotel & Restaurant is a great place for a drink and a meal . We ate here three times in one week and look forward to staying here on our next trip to Anstruther. The sister hotel to The Waterfront Hotel but with much more to offer. The food is consistently good with no complaints apart from the peas which came with the Fish & Chips, they were so hard like bullets they could break your teeth !!!Staff here are welcoming, friendly and attentive, thank you.

Very disappointed with The meal - 2 of our party had macaroni cheese - both came cold - one of our party had minute steak ciabatta- steak/mushrooms/onions were cold and ciabatta hard as a brick - only meal that came hot was the fish and chips. Have ate at The Bank on other visits and had an excellent meal - menu very limited
