We stayed one night as we had a wedding to attend a few miles away. The welcome was very warm and genuine. Our room was small but clean and tidy. The shower was powerful and hot. We had the room overlooking the road and yes, you can hear the odd car, but it wasn’t that busy. Breakfast was freshly prepared and served with great coffee. Happily recommend for a short stay.

We arrived on the first night of the new take over by the community and had a lovely time. Staff brilliant and welcoming. Room lovely and clean. Evening meal good value and tasty and breakfast fab. Would certainly come again and would recommend.

Really good stay. Clean and comfy room. Good food. Very warm welcome. We came about a week after the new owners took it over and they couldn’t have been more hospitable. As three very tired and muddy cyclists they looked after us totally. Would definitely recommend and I’ll certainly be back.

We arrived soaked to the bone from a day's leg of the SDW to a warm, friendly welcome from the manager and locals (including George the dog).We had a lovely meal and the whole place felt like a home from home. The room facing the road didn't affect us at all. It's lack of pretention and its homeliness is its best feature.

Amazing service. Stayed here the night before a wedding and arrived late and left early but the service was amazing and they were more than happy to keep the kitchen open late and open breakfast earlier. Went above and beyond! Basic rooms but cute and clean.

Just arrived back home from our breakfast experience at the bluebell Sunday 28th of July last time we visited it was amazing wonderful and the food was glorious this time however the food was mediocre and the service atrocious dirty cups, no apology for this we ordered fried bread got toast was rectified after I said something with her going into the kitchen shouting to the chef, apparently they ordered fried bread whoever is the server she needs to be sacked. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour insulting Rude enough said we will not be returning

We visited after going to view a house in the village which we want to purchase. The estate agent told us about the pub and we knew it had been rescued by the community so we were really looking forward to going and trying the food. I really didn't want to leave this review as I sincerely want this to work out for them but to be honest, this was one of the worst meals I have had in my life! We ordered burgers. How do you literally make a burger inedible? Anyway, they managed to do it. Real shame, and maybe they lost their chef or something, but honestly better to not serve food, than to send that out. We both felt ill on the way home, and we hadn't eaten much of it. Guys, get yourselves a cook or a chef, this could be a great place!

We have just moved locally and just popped in for some lunch a few weeks ago on the off chance we could get a table. We were acknowledged by the girl at the bar who was lovely and said to wait for an older lady who took a few minutes. Maybe she was having an off day, but she was unsmiling and terse when we asked for a table. They were fully booked, but we felt so unwelcome that we won’t be going back. It’s a shame as the reviews are all really great.

Stayed one night here whilst hiking the South Downs Way. Rooms are very basic for the high price. Our room (yellow one) was side on to the road, which was really noisy, we hardly slept. The stair area that goes to the rooms/bar/kitchen, was really grubby, it didn't give a good impression of the kitchen. The food was not that great (fish & chips at dinner, full cooked breakfast). We also had to put up with the local drunk teen harassing a table of young male hikers. She was loud, F'ing and blinding at dinner, it was annoying! I can't fault the staff or service, they were friendly and hard working.

Needing a lovely country pub to stay in along the South Downs Way. However, this was not it. Seriously overpriced Small cramped room Whole place needs a refurb, grubby and tired. Tables in restaurant sticky. Would not recommend this place to anyone, and would never return. Avoid is my suggestion.
