We had a great trip. The hotel is old and the rooms are very dated. A slight smell of damp in the corridors. However, saying that, we had a great stay. The beds were comfortable, check in was very easy and all the staff were very nice. The breakfast was the best buffet breakfast I have had, black pudding was lovely and everything was very hot which isn't normal for a buffet. The price for the hotel was the best I could find in the city centre and the location is great. Would definitely stay again

Chose The Angel for its central position (co-incidentally my elderly cousin whom I was visiting , had her wedding reception there over 60 years ago !) and because I knew something about it . …

Just had two lovely relaxing nights at the Angel Hotel. Please do not let the negative reviews put you off, as we honestly cannot see why there are so many! …

Well presented in places and in need of renovation in places. Agree you can tell it was once a beautiful hotel. Bed was comfy, the room cosy with everything you needed and we slept really well; very little noise. …

The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars on the room is because it, like many other places are somewhat dated and can only be judged on your own expectations. However, I will say, it was clean, tidy, and warm, and I had everything I needed on this visit. Breakfast was a typical buffet style with orange and apple juice, a choice of tea or coffee. Help yourself to cereal, a selection of meat and cheese slices, or the English breakfast. All of the staff I encountered were very polite and helpful. For the one night I stayed, the overall experience was fantastic.

We enjoyed our night at the Angel. True, the public areas were a bit “faded glory,” but our room was newly decorated and sparkling, roomy and comfy, nice view of castle, lovely bathroom, good breakfast. Staff were pleasant, personable, and helpful. Recommend!

Loved this vintage style hotel. I walked in on the day I wanted a room and they had space; I was even upgraded due to an issue in the room which was a nice touch. I ordered room service for dinner and it was excellent. The breakfast is a full English breakfast, so if you like that then definitely opt for it. The location is perfect and I had a really nice stay.

The hotel staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. The building is definitely in need of some refurbishment and general smartening up. …

I don’t know why it has so many negative reviews, yes it’s a bit tired but couldn’t fault the room, the most comfortable bed and fluffy pillows, excellent power shower, very clean and comfortable. …
