The room was perfect for our needs. It was quiet and not too far from the city as well as being quite roomy. It was clean and the bathroom had recently been renovated. The bus stop was right outside and it was a great jumping off base.It is as advertised in that you get a room with a shared bath. You get what you pay for and that's fine.

Cold and unpleadant. Windows rattling during wind, unable to get a refund - wanted it due to rooms being in terrible quality. Rude and unhelpful staff.

One of the worst places. I would give it 0 stars and raise it to the Edinburgh tourism department. And if you don't trust me, please book a refundable room for 1 night and check it out before booking for larger number of days (I stayed for 3 days and today is my first night- I want to cancel and go somewhere else). The pictures are totally misleading. The rooms are clean and neat (only 1 saving grace), but they are old and refurbished - totally unlike the pics. They are highly mismanaged, not a hotel - have weird rules - no visitors around 8.30 pm.. manager smokes outside on steps next to entrance.. given this is a no-smoking hotel (or hostel - college dorm!) .. a house converted into a college dorm hostel masquerading as a hotel. They don't provide hand towel. Only 1 bath towel. Not worth the stay.Asian lady staying next door told me that they didn't change towel for 3 days. Manager is rude. This should be labeled as college dorm type of housing.

I would give this place 0 stars if I could, the initial photos on the website looked decent for a weekend get away.Everything was confirmed I get to the place and I'm immediately greeted with a very unfriendly face, I was told there was no breakfast and I had to share a toilet so already I was disappointed when I opened the room door the decor was vulgar and the room was filthy I was told there would be a flat screen TV but was displayed a 16 by 8 inch TV in the corner of the room the room was so small I could barely move and the smell was awful when I requested a better room as the website was falsely advertised I was aggressively addressed by the man behind the desk whilst (presumably his partner) made snarky little comments under her breath. I have cancelled as I refuse to stay in this dump I wouldn't wish it upon anyone to have to stay here customer service points minus 100.

WiFi was rather weak in the room that I was given, and I was unable to get a cell reception. Room itself is rather nice. We got a twin room with shared bathrooms. Facilities are good. Breakfast provided for £3.50. There's a bus stop right outside with a service that arrives every 15 minutes and it takes around 15 minutes to get to the city

Bed & breakfast, not hotel. No restaurant or bar. Bedroom was very small. However the bed was very comfortable and the room and en suite was clean. If it was called a B & B I'd have given it 3 stars as you'd know what to expect but if you booked thinking it was a hotel (as my work had done) you'll be sorely disappointed.I slept well and the continental breakfast was good. Davie the manager(?) was friendly and helpful at the front-desk and looked after the guests at breakfast time.Ok for 1 night but I couldn't (wouldn't) have stayed longer.

BEWARE!!! BED BUGS!!! THE WORST PLACE I'VE EVER STAYED AT!!! Should be rated -1. Booked for 3 nights. Biggest regret ever!! On a quick glance you think everything is ok besides the most impolite facial expression of the lady staff or owner's wife(not sure). 1st night got bitten by bed bugs, yes BED BUGS...this was in Room 1. Hardly slept & could hardly sleep any nights thereafter. Got moved to a 'bigger & better' room described by the owner...NOT much better. You notice the dirty carpets & that they actually DON'T vacuum or clean your room properly or change bedding AT ALL!!? And you'd think after room 1's experience they would treat you any better?! NOPE. One of the days they left 1 towel in the room for 4 of us to share!? plus they are not at reception 24 hrs so we had to wait till the next morning at 7:30am to clear any issues with them?! THIS place should NOT be offering accommodation to anyone!! Disgraceful service! Only because I tried to be as civilised & understanding I remained there instead of asking for a full refund & left the place the first morning!! You'll be better off spending your money somewhere else.

Merith House Hotel is a 3 Star hotel, and deservedly so. This is not a bad thing, it just means that you come away with the feeling that it could be so much better with a bit of effort.First, the good bits. The hotel offers free wifi, free continental breakfast, and free parking. The parking is just on-street parking, but I believe they have a dedicated car park somewhere. I didn't need it though. The rooms are also clean and the staff are friendly. It's also pretty close to the city centre (with a bus stop right outside!), and a large Tesco is within walking distance so you can get groceries. The park opposite is also nice. The not so good bits kinda pull it down a bit though. The building is old and somewhat dated, and needs maintenance (things like a wobbly toiletries shelf in the bathroom, loose and creaky floorboards, etc). The rooms are also small and a bit cramped, and oddly enough we didn't have a bin in the room and had to use the one in the bathroom. The housekeeping was also a bit odd, as they didn't replenish the toiletries (such as it was, one bar of hand soap), missed an empty pizza box and didn't empty the kettle- makes you wonder how thorough they really are, but oh well.It wasn't a bad stay by any means, it just could have been a bit better so don't let the above dissuade you if you're after a cheap place to stay that's close to town

Very small and dirty room with stains on bed and washroom. Suggest to spend a few extra dollars and stay somewhere else. They also have a policy that you cannot check in after 9pm which is not stated when you first book it. I notified them in advance since my flight was landing at 8 pm. I checked in at 9:05 pm and they have charged me a fee for it. They also charged my credit card extra fee and been waiting for the response. Horrible hotel to sleep in.

We did not receive what we paid for. Booked through Expedia who took our card details said it was all confirmed came to the hotel and they said we hadn't paid and it was only reserved. Did get annoyed as it was not clear on the booking. We booked a double bed room, but the hotel gave us a double bed with 2 single beds and a shared bathroom. I did not pay over 100 pounds to share a bathroom with other people. Our room was in the basement where there was no wifi and reception. On the booking there was no check out time. However on our day of checkout the receptionist came banging on the door 20 past 10 saying check out is at half 10. Me n and my wife being unaware had to quickly start getting ready he came again at half past saying you need to leave or there will be a 10 fee charge. Me and my wife where fuming and left the hotel my wife ended up getting ready in the car. The service was a disgrace I did not pay for this. I will not come here again and strongly will not recommend this hotel.
