The Castle Inn restaurant had great food and great service! We enjoyed our meal, after a long first day in Scotland. I forgot my purse with our passports & a large sum of cash on my chair. …

You have to stop in for a pint and if you are lucky enough to try the Sunday Roast, it’s as good as you’ll find. We really enjoyed a couple nights here. Bar man is top notch. Chef is always around, his assistant made us food after the kitchen closed one night (way after the kitchen closed), we were so hungry and appreciative that we could get dinner! One of my favorite places that we visited during our Scotland trip.

Visited today for lunch. Very friendly attentive staff. We had salmon en croute and the venison burger with haggis and Stilton cheese. Both were absolutely delicious infact my husband was almost brought to tears his burger was that good, he waxed lyrical about it all the way home.Highly recommend a visit here and dog friendly 😀.

Like most people I only ate here and didn’t stay overnight. As such I wanted to review the restaurant only which isn’t possible - the should be changed. Anyway, the food was was fabulous (scampi and steak pie) and would get a 5 star rating.

During a recent day trip to Dirlington Castle I stopped in for lunch with my daughter and her husband. My daughter has coeliacs and the restaurant were very accommodating to her needs. She ordered the Halloumi burger, which, for her, came without a bun (as the buns have gluten in them). It was, in her words "amazing" and, as she is a chef, she should know.My son-in-law ordered the Venison burger which was, to my surprise, moist and full of flavour. I know how easy it is to cook venison and for it to be dry. Son-in-law loved it.Both the above came with chips which they were so impressed with they insisted I taste them, I had to agree, they were certainly well worth writing Google about lolBoth also commented on the freshness of the salad which they said was top notch. Well, coming from son-in-law who breaks into a sweat if you suggest he eats vegetables, that is a massive compliment and it was backed up by him eating the full salad - something I have never seen before. Finally, to me. I ordered the vegetable Thai Green Curry. When it arrived I have to say I thought it didn't look particularly hot but wow it did have a very pleasant kick. Not too hot, just absolutely perfect! The vegetables, again, were clearly very fresh and the rice cooked to perfection. The nan bread that came with it was so fresh and delicious I wish I could have finished it, but the portions in this restaurant are such that it was a struggle for all three of us to finish our meals. What can I say? This is such a little gem. When we arrived the waiters said he would "squeeze us in but the restaurant is fully booked after 5" Looking around, there appeared to be plenty of tables and, in such a small town I felt certain this would be an exageration, until we tasted the food. Now I suspect it probably is full most of the time, and with a really good reason.

The room was ok and fine for a one night visit. The people, pub, and food were amazing. The only suggestions that I would make is to tighten the shower head as it was leaking from the wand portion and maybe have tabletop fans for people to use. The room was quite warm and we could've used one last night for sure.
