I was there a month ago. Everything was OK. That was my first time in cheaper hostel. Room was clear and tidy. Reception help me with my questions. I spend one night there. People in my room were loudly at night, but they told me, they will woke up early. That is not a problem of the hostel. I saw some bad ratings about this hostel, I can not say. I am not sure if I was lucky but I was really satisfied. Thank you for a cheap place, where you can stay for a night!

Stayed in family room. Excellent location, clean room, hot shower. Easy access by bus to central London, as well as underground and railway. Not so good..... security. In and around the reception felt a bit like a refugee camp. Several non-guests hanging around day and night and using the toilets. Something that should definitely be improved.

Do not go!If you are thinking of staying here, think about another option. The location is not that bad but the closest you have is tower brigde 30 min away.Anyone can enter the lobby so it is full of homeless or people who just go to charge their cell phones, I even saw people sleeping there with all their belongings in plastic bags, when you enter you get a smell so foul and pungent. It's okay if they do that, we all deserve help, although they should clarify that they do that, that the lobby is for homeless people. In other hostels they told me everything I could find, here they only told me "check in is at 3". Just like they ask you to be respectful and clean because you share space with other travelers. Here they ate in the room and everything stunk, not very hygienic everywhere.I got to my room and just wanted to go to bed, mmmm there were bed bugs!!!!I went downstairs and asked to change my room, at first they only wanted to change my bed in the same room. In the end they did change my room but it took them another 2 hours to give it to me.I arrived at noon and was able to get into my room until 6:45 am.However, the guy was very concerned and asked me 5 times if I had slept in the bed and if it was clean. He was really more worried about me assigning that bed to someone else than about getting it clean. The bed was moderately clean of course but with bedbugs !!!! Yuck! The safety boxes where you can keep your suitcase dirty and some don't close well, shower very small, uncomfortable mattresses, dirty walls, I don't even want to think about how clean the sheets were or if they were changed before I arrived, I just put up with the displeasure of being there for 5 days.

Great staff, who were friendly and helpful and also quickly sent help to fix anything that was not working in the rooms. Rooms were cleaned every day and even though you could see some wear and tear things were well maintained. Surprisingly good breakfast for a hostel. It was a good stay. Thank you.

I had a great experience during my first stay here – the room was comfortable, and the people were friendly. That’s why I decided to return for a few more days, but unfortunately, this time wasn’t as pleasant. The room I was given was far worse in comparison. The heating was stuck on, and it felt like it was 30 degrees inside at all times. After two nights of sweltering heat, maintenance finally sorted it out.To make matters worse, on the morning of my last day, a staff member woke me up by tapping me, telling me it was time to check out. First of all, don’t touch me – what gives you the right? Secondly, I had paid for a late check-out. Incredibly, another staff member came in about 10 minutes later to tell me again that it was time to leave. When it was actually time for me to check out, I discovered that my keycard had gone missing. It had either been picked up by the cleaning staff or someone else in the room, so I couldn’t even hand it in.I’d also like to add that I got bitten quite a few times, presumably by bed bugs.If you get a good room, this place can be great, but after experiencing both ends of the spectrum, unless you can guarantee a good one, it’s not worth the risk.

I can't understand those bad reviews published recently on Google. The room I shared (#314) as well as bathrooms were always clean, staff was friendly. The hostel is not responsible for actions of fellow travellers. Security was good as one could only operate the lift or open certain doors using one's key card. With bus stops in front of the hostel and tube and train stations nearby public transport couldn't be better. Hot water was available whenever I took a shower. Things I missed: a mirror and electric power within reach to shave and a table in the room. And I hated having to push the button in the shower every 10 to 15 seconds.

Booked a mixed 4 bed dormitory as two females, having never had any negative experiences in previous hostels. Our experience in elephant and castle will mean we will never book mixed again, to say we felt unsafe is a serious understatement. We were placed with two male guests of which returned drunk at 1am, and extremely angry, volatile and verbally aggressive, we felt we could not leave the room and our personal safety was threatened if we had made any sort of attempt to leave. We pretty much spent majority of the night absolutely terrified in the room. We appreciate safestay don't have much control over the behaviour of people post check in, however we did send an email to safestay raising the fact we felt seriously threatened at 3 in morning which has still not been responded to, and the following morning, when talking to the front desk to see if we could change room if the same guests were staying, they couldn't have cared less, leaving us with no option but to cancel the rest of our stay if we were to be stuck with the same guests again. We were really disappointed with the apathy met. In general, the entire atmosphere of the hostel did not make a pleasant experience and we consistently felt like we were being watched by the other guests in the lobby who had clearly no problem staring at anything that moved to the extent it was uncomfortable, there's a certain type of people drawn to this hostel, definitely will not recommend. Steer clear unless you can fill a dorm with enough of your own group and do not wish to spend any time other than to sleep and use the toilet.

Would not recommend this hostel. I’ve stayed in my fair share of budget hostels and this one was quite simply not worth it. As a younger female traveler I would not recommend this hostel. People staying there are not social tourists/backpackers, there is no social vibe. Most people staying are either down on their luck and need a place to stay or large groups of kids. Strange vibe overall. My biggest issues were- lack of bathrooms (only 1 bathroom and 1 shower per 5 rooms of six people is ridiculous) there was almost always a line and people did not smell great because of this. Some showers turned off automatically every 20 seconds or had mold and had no windows so it got incredible humid.- the entire hostel was incredibly hot. They had the heat running in common areas when it was 80 degrees F (27 degrees) and it was incredibly difficult to sleep because the rooms were like saunas even with windows openBasically, find a better place. Beds themselves were ok and decently clean, curtains were nice, but other hostels are definitely available for a comparable price that have better facilities and better people. Location was a 10 minute walk from the underground which was nice but could’ve been closer and was on a rlly loud street and not the best neighborhood.
