We really wanted to like this hotel, since it sounds good on paper. The location is great (close to tube station, on mostly-quiet residential side street), and the building looked like it had tons of character. It also was one of the relatively-reasonably-priced places in the area. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with our experience. The room: Small and poorly-designed; we stayed in a room with a king and two twin beds, and only the twin beds had a view of the small TV (which requires a switch to be flipped on to operate, which the front desk didn't tell us until we called). The bathroom light bulb was flickering - the front desk sent somebody up to change it. The beds were so hard - maybe one slight step up from a military cot. There is no air conditioning. There are no real amenities in the room. We could only find one power outlet (at the desk) - nothing near the beds. We could hear people walking above us clearly. High ceilings and passable bathroom thoughThe building: The front is currently covered in scaffolding. The elevator is small - you can barely fit 1 person and a suitcase inside. It was very slow when it was working - and it stopped working twice during our 2-night stay. We got our steps in thanks to that, since it forced us to walk up a bunch of floors. Carpet is thick, so your suitcase wheels might be hard to maneuver. The lounge/bar room is classy. The street it's on is mostly quiet at night. The service: Employees were friendly, though they seemed forgetful. They forgot they had checked us in for breakfast once. We told them we wanted a late check-out and they agreed, but our keys didn't work when we got back to our room before checking out, forcing us to walk down the stairs to get them to re-activate the cards (since the elevator wasn't working). Breakfast was well-laid-out.We were happy with the location, but would not suggest staying here.

I booked the Gem Strathmore Hotel for a weekend to celebrate my friend's birthday. We like the Kensington area, though hadn't stayed at this hotel before. It's a lovely period building full of old world charm. …

Good stay, good staff. Helped with luggage due to lift being upgraded. Horrified I was going to walk up 4 flights when it was working the following day - I need the steps though so was happy! Great rooms and good beds. No noise, clean bathrooms with good quality shampoo etc. Close to Gloucester Road tube and Waitrose.

Fantastic hotel, superb location in Kensington for explorers. Nice room, we went for a twin. Great selection of tea/coffee facilities.Good TV with plenty of channels to view. No apps like Netflix or Amazon Prime to use enough.Few niggles like no extra pillows in the room but suspect you could request. No toilet brush. The bed was firm but a bit too firm for us but know beds are a very personal thing.Had a nice continental breakfast with boxed cereal, yogurts and a lovely selection of meats, cheese and pastries.Note: you can pay more for an English style breakfast but we went for the continental option. All in all a great stay for our exploration of London. Very friendly staff and great check in/check out.Hotel has meeting rooms, dining room where breakfast was served and a cosy bar area.

We love the Strathmore and stay there every time we visit London. Great location, comfortable beds, high quality linens, nice rooms, excellent breakfast. Not modern, but very cozy. A short walk to Hyde Park, the V&A, Museum of Natural History, etc. Tube stop just two blocks away.

The location is amazing, staff are very helpful and hotel looks great from the outside and on the first inspection. But…the rooms are “ok”, but tiny. There was about six inches between the edge of the bed and the window. …

Great location, very nice room. The bed was a bit hard but only 1 night it was ok. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice.
