I would never stay at this place again and would never recommend it to anyone. ||When I arrived late in the evening, after travelling all day to get there, I was told that they didn't have a double room for me like I had booked and paid …

We stayed for one night because we were on a coach trip for the tattooThe room was clean and had a view over the back of the hotel, which was the river and that was niceIt was very clean. The beds were clean and comfortable and also the room had a fridge which was usefulHotel is very nice. The staff will lovely,We had seen not so good reviews about the hotel, but we had a good time. Sometimes its good to check things out for yourselfThe food wasn't much to write home about. Itwas okay, but nothing to complain about eitherIt was just outside Edinburgh so useful for getting into town. We enjoyed our stay. Thank you! x

Awful! By far, my worst experience in a hotel in my life. Staff: I arrived at 15:00 and the guy at the reception said you need to wait for a couple of minutes since your room is not ready. I don’t know why a room at 15:00 for a booking which is for the day before is not ready! Then he disappeared and left me there for 50 minutes. Finally I went to a lady saying this and she gave me the room.Room: it smells like wet old dungeon. All my cloths smell after this room now. I didn’t want to touch a thing since I thought they are dirty. The furniture was very old, some lamps didn’t work, the TV’s remote control wasn’t there, room didn’t have a phone, the bathroom had mould, the tea spoon was not washed properly, the mattress was old and uncomfortable, the window couldn’t be closed, the heating system was outdated. What can I say more??I am sorry for the owners, managers, and staff of this hotel. This hotel is a shame in Scotland. Please, DO NOT go there and do not ruin the experience of such beautiful city with such awful hotel.

First off staff were really nice and very helpful. In a very expensive city to get your head down for the night, it was reasonably priced. Location was fine if you don't mind a 25 min walk to bars, restaurants, Edinburgh centre.OK that's the good bits out of the way. This hotel is very dated. Needs pulled down, or the mother of all renovations. See room review.Kind of reminded me of a tired old Eastern European, 1980s hotel I stayed in.Won't be back. Will swallow cost elsewhere. Pity.

I stayed in the Britannia as a necessity and found the experience ok. The staff on reception were very friendly and helpful, as i had been stranded in Ed due to cancelled trains and provided a toothbrush! The girl on the bar was a welcoming happy face to see after a tough day.The room was basic, with a tv and small storage area. The double bed was two singles pushed together. The room layout was odd, as if a spare room had been renovated to a hotel room. The bathroom light is next to the front door, which is down a small corridor so not ideal in the middle of the night. There is a green light also on all night which kept me awake as it lights up the room. The shower head is also only about 5ft high with a ledge above it so if u are over 5ft tall u need to crouch down. The room number was L01 so avoid this rm if u are not short person.

First things first, if the first thing you do is read the first line of a review, read this and never make the mistake we did and stay here. …

My stay at this hotel was incredibly disappointing. First of all, the room had a terrible odor, like old mattresses and carpets, and there was no ventilation or windows, which made it even worse. The key to the room constantly malfunctioned, and housekeeping never cleaned our room. They didn’t provide toilet paper, clean towels, or even basic toiletries like shampoo, shower gel, and soap.To make matters worse, the rooms are located in what feels like a basement, where there’s no mobile signal, and they charge for Wi-Fi, which was never mentioned beforehand. This is the first time I’ve ever encountered such a thing. The checkout time is 10 a.m., which is earlier than the standard 12 p.m. at most hotels. Overall, I left feeling deeply upset and dissatisfied with my experience here.

Actually- it's not as bad as all the reviews. The staff were friendly, I arrived at 9:30pm and still got a parking space, the room was fairly large, came with iron and kettle (and biscuits!) …

Booked this Hotel last minute, first impression of outside was dire looking, filthy windows, staff at front door smoking giving the impression of a cheap hostel not hotel. On entering reception, staff member was extremely rude saying I’m changing shift so you have to wait to check in, main toilets were filthy and unflushed, bar was meant to be open until 11pm but shut early and would not serve us anything to drink whilst we waited for check in 10:40pm, room was okish but noisy, would never stay here here again.
