incredible hospitality, great food and unstinting kindness from this family run pub with rooms. they couldn’t do enough for us as we landed on their doorstep, bedraggled after getting caught in terrible weather whilst on a bike event.highly recommended. superbly kept pub, great beer and service with a smile. nothing was too much. these are the type of pubs we need in our communities.

Really excellent.8 of us (age 50-60) from Scotland and Ireland, some hillwalking, some sightseeing, were looking for a convenient base in Newton Stewart. With a few exceptions, Newton's offerings are pretty low key (or overpriced) so it was a fantastic surprise to discover how very good Derek's place is.Spotlessly clean - rooms, bar and dining room. Great food, very well cooked and presented.Great service, friendly and helpful.Excellent value. The Black Horse is not without its bells and whistles but that is not what it's about. What it does, it does simply and very, very well. All 8 of us gave it a 10 and rated it best of all pubs, eating houses and venues in our 5 day trip.Douglas Reid and friends.
