We just got back from a family trip to Scotland, and can’t say enough positive things about our stay at the Old Mill house. We had a group of 10, and the elegant house provided luxurious accommodations for all. The setting was magical, surrounded by a creek, and next to a nature preserve the lead to a beautiful ancient abbey next to a river.The commute to Edinburgh was easy, and we made several day trips to the city, as well as St Andrews and the British Open.Sally was a very accommodating host, even providing a lasagna to begin our stay. Sally was on site, and quick to answer questions and find us transportation.We would definitely recommend this house, and would love to return one day!

Staying at The Old Millhouse was a wonderful experience. The house has been furnished to a very high standard and with exquisite taste. It has a five star luxurious feel to it, with a relaxing feeling of home. Sally was on hand to make our stay extra special - she is very welcoming, knowledgeable of the area and an extraordinary cook to boot.We stayed for an event at the house, which was one of the best weddings I have ever attended, every detail was taken care of and the setting was simply stunning. It is hard to believe you are so close to Edinburgh as it feels like you are in the middle of the countryside but have all conveniences at your fingertips.Thank you Sally for making the stay at the Old Millhouse one of our most enjoyable visits to the UK.

Excellent stay with family at the Old Millhouse in Dalkeith. Sally is wonderful and helped make our stay really special. The house is beautiful and has everything you might need. Edinburgh is not far, but the house is so lovely, why leave? Would definitely visit again when in Edinburgh with a group.

Our week at the Old Mill was fantastic. Everything from the pristine and comfortable accommodations, to the welcoming spa and beautiful grounds made for a memorable vacation. Above all, the owner's attention to detail and organizational skills made our trip interesting and much more productive. She guided us to grocery stores, wine shops, the best restaurants and most unique sites. It was the unexpected however, that made our stay fun: the deer sightings, fishing the creek and getting to know the friendly chickens, especially Kitty. Everyone in our group of 10 considers their stay at The Old Millhouse as being the highlight of their European trip.

Just spent a lovely long weekend here and it's a real gem. Just 20 mins from Edinburgh and all this wonderful city has to offer, and really good for some lovely golf courses, should have brought my clubs. This house is immaculate and has gorgeous and spacious living rooms. The bedrooms are all comfy and fully kitted out. Finally they are installing a spa pool and outside leisure area which will be ready for the better weather in the spring. A revisit is on the cards.

Set in beautiful landscaped grounds, The Old Mill House is a boutique home providing deluxe accommodation. The five deluxe ensuite bedrooms are all individually decorated with very comfortable beds with true Egyptian cotton bedding. The stylish kitchen opens out to the garden and to the conservatory both offering great dining areas surrounded by lush greenery.The house is ideally located on the outskirts of Edinburgh center and makes a great holiday base from which to explore the city and the surrounding country side and local villages. During our stay we visited Melrose famous for hosting the first ever Rugby Sevens Tournament in 1883. It is a lovely 45 minutes’ drive through the Scottish Borders. I would recommend the Old Mill House for those who appreciate the finer things in life and confidently give it my own five star rating.

I stayed here in May and it was spectacular. As you drive down the driveway you are presented with this incredible view of their stunning home. The rooms are spacious and the ensuites immaculate. Every morning we would have breakfast over looking the gardens and would often see deer walking past.I thoroughly look forward to staying here again as the host Sally was very welcoming and helped with anything we needed. I can't recommend this place enough.

Spent a day here for a wedding and it was magical. The wedding was held outdoors in the beautiful grounds and the reception in a stunning old style marquee in the background, the old mill house. Catering was top level too, and the attention to detail on every aspect. I saw a few of the rooms and they are designed and decorated to a very high standard. If you are looking for something a bit bling/high end and visiting Edinburgh some time in the near future, this place is well worth a look at, as Sally (the owner) will totally look after you.

From beginning to end, our stay was great, The Old Millhouse in Dalkeith is everything it says on the website and more. We were on a family celebration and it suited us perfectly, all is of an exceptionally high standard. It is perfect base for Edinburgh and into the surrounding countryside, if you have a car. The gardens are stunning, great outdoor space weather permitting. I would recommend it to anyone, and look forward to returning.
