Rooms basic. I lost 3hr sleep in the morning, waking at 5am, because they forgot to show me there was an electric skylight blind and this defeated the object of my stay (to rest and have a lie in). There was an occasional cigarette smoke smell seeping into our room. The beds were otherwise comfortable and cosy. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is home-made, hearty, tasty and well-presented. There is only limited parking on the road so it can be a problem on a sunny day, holidays or where there are special events. Overall, I would stop here again for that old style atmosphere, pool table and great food plus the town has a an interesting history.

Stayed here recently. The service from the staff was great, food in evening was ok, breakfast was excellent. Unfortunately the rooms could do with some TLC. Especially the carpet, I’d return here for food maybe, but probably not over night.

Very nice place. The rooms are very comfortable, quiet and homely. The bathroom and shower were great and again very homely. |The staff were extremely helpful and polite and the breakfast (included) was great too. If you’re travelling and need a stopover I definitely recommend!

Great wee pub, friendly staff and customers, clean comfortable rooms and really nice food. It's a bit like the Tardis, looks small from the outside with plenty of space inside.

We were there for a wedding. A perfect venue with fantastic staff. We stayed over, the room was comfortable and had everything we needed after a night of dancing! 10/10 for breakfast again the staff were friendly and attentive. Located near the river Tyne the surroundings were quiet and peaceful. We had a wonderful weekend and would totally recommend The Golf Tavern

Stayed an evening here and thoroughly enjoyed it, great welcome and a brilliant wee bar. Rooms are clean and comfy, they could benefit from a lick of paint . Very tasty breakfast served by Jordan , very polite young man and Danni in the bar couldn't do enough for us. Will 100% come again, we ate out but if the eve meal is as good as the breakfast it should be a winner.
