If you’re looking for an authentic feel overnight at a Castle, this place delivers. We were disappointed with the rest it offered, however. From the moment we stepped in, most of the staff we encountered were brusque and seemed bothered by our presence. We were given vague instructions as to how to find our room, process of utilizing the spa and our dinner we had booked. Mind you, this is a twisty , turntable castle and nothing is obvious. The people at the spa also seemed annoyed when we asked in advance about our appointment. We were told to dress in our robes provided in our room and walk all the way down the stairs, through the lobby, through the restaurant and into the Spa. It was awkward and uncomfortable to say the least but worse, when we arrived they led us to locker rooms with changing areas and robes! When I asked why they didn’t offer us this the young woman said, “most hotels do it this way.” The Spa area itself was dated, unkempt and was shared with multiple guests . The 5 course meal in the dungeon was a unique and pleasant experience but very expensive for the quality and taste of the foods served. The falconry (run by a separate company) was excellent and a highlight for us. The grounds are lovely with walkable paths all around. The breakfast provided in the Orangery was good but again, the staff was so unpleasant. We had a late meal one evening and after paying and heading out our waiter shouted, “excuse me you didn’t pay for your soda!” Unbeknownst to us, they had listed the Diet Coke on the bill but next to it it said 0.00. They acted as if we had done something wrong and didn’t have an explanation as to why they rang it up that way. It was rather obnoxious. We regret having stayed 2 nights. One is more than enough if absolutely want the Castle experience.

Highly recommend this experience. The spa was great. The food was 5-star and the experience of sleeping in a castle is one to check off the bucket list. We would do it again for a longer time so we could also enjoy the nearby Falconry and archery.

I booked this for my wifes birthday and got " Lady Catherine's " room. The only one apparently haunted .!!The castle is amazing and the room was fantastic, we had a tremendous stay with a superb Scottish breakfast before moving on.We also walked around the grounds along the river to the old ruin.

If you are looking for a Castle experience - Dalhousie delivers. The drive up was impressive and many of the common rooms are nice and add to the overall experience. Unfortunately, the rooms, service, and food were well below everything else we enjoyed staying at a number of other hotels, castles, and B&B's over the course of a 2-week visit in Scotland. While you forgo some modern conveniences, I was surprised our room was very cramped, the bathroom even smaller, and the only usable outlet was located in the closet. I can certainly see the appeal as a venue for special occasions.

The castle is beautiful. The surrounding area is beautiful. Our room was good. The bed very comfortable. The dinner was exquisite. Served by a very capable young lady called Grace. The surrounds were very interesting in a dungeon. …

Staying at Dalhousie Castle is like stepping into history. It was worth the climb to our 4 poster bedroom, Sir Robert the Bruce. We've stayed in many rooms in many countries but this was like no other.  …

It's an interesting castle venue close to Edinburgh. Ideal for weddings and the like, there are better places for luxury getaways. The food was fine, but not exceptional. The staff were friendly, but clearly exhausted after a summer of other people's parties. The best bit was the walk along the South Esk River and the ruined folly. And, of course, not having to cook, wash up, or make the bed :)

What a lovely experience with the Dalhousie staff and property. Highly recommended. Loved going in for a drink and ordering dinner there, then being led down to "the dungeon" to our table, for an utterly delicious meal. …

Gorgeous! It's such a cool place to stay! Warning: lots of stairs. It's a castle! 🏰A few snags here and there in terms of service, but the food was amazing, the rooms are stunning, and the staff are generally very welcoming.Dinner wasn't run in the most efficient manner and took a long time, but we were happy to go along with the flow. Love eating in a dungeon! The older woman serving breakfast was rather cold, but the food was top-notch. Also, check your receipt when you leave because we were almost charged for things we didn't have. All in all: Excellent!
