I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The building is charming. The staff very courteous and the breakfast delicious. It is also a wonderful location with all City Center sights close. A Tram stop is close too. It is an old building so there is not an elevator. It is only 3 floors doable but, if you have health problems request a low floor.

We recently stayed here for a weekend, and whilst the hotel was lovely and clean and very friendly, we weren't aware that there was no lift. We were on the 3rd floor and my husband has mobility issues. …

Good location and friendly enough staff. Room was big but sparse, worst mattress I’ve ever had in a hotel, could actually feel the springs. The bathroom was spotless, looked newly done. …

This is the best hotel that we stayed in on our entire trip in Scotland. The room was extremely spacious and the bathroom was fantastic. We wish that it had been more than just an overnight stay at the end of our trip. Had we only known we would’ve stayed in Edinburgh for three days in this fabulous hotel.

We made a reservation through Booking for a hotel room. Upon arrival, we realized that the booking had mistakenly been made for the following month instead of September. The hotel kindly offered to accommodate us and found us a room. However, the room was extremely small, located next to the trash bins (which caused a lot of noise throughout the night), with signs of dampness on the walls and windows, and it was situated in the basement. Given that the mistake was on our end, we did not complain about the room. The next morning, however, we were informed that we needed to pay £319 (€380) for the night and that everything would be resolved with Booking for a refund of the initial reservation.Booking has since informed us that there will be no refund as they were unable to contact the hotel. As a result, we ended up paying €540 for a night in a room of very poor quality. While the original mistake was our fault, we now feel as though we have been scammed.

We checked in to Place hotel on the 30th of May after a long trip. The check-in process was smooth enough. The hotel is laid out across several buildings-all without elevators. Our room was in a building adjacent to the main one. So to get to the room from the reception and lounge areas we had to cut across a building and down several flights of stairs. Someone was kind enough to help us with our luggage but we still had a 25Kg bag that we needed to manage by ourselves which was inconvenient to say the least. When we reached the room, to our horror, we found the flush doesn’t work in the water closet. What’s more, the phone to reception didn’t work either so we had to go up all those flights and request the reception to either change our room or fix the flush. Well they did neither, but at least the reception concierge was apologetic. We were assured a maintenance person would help us at 8 am the next day. If we needed to relieve ourselves we had to go up several flights across two buildings and down another flight! The next morning we didn’t hear from the promised maintenance person. We went back to the reception (since the phone doesn’t work) and it was a different person there. She had no idea that there was an issue with our flush (I guess they don’t communicate between shifts). She seemed least bothered by our predicament. She told us a maintenance person (who was standing next to her) would help us “some time when he gets a chance in the day”. To top it off, we’d been promised a complimentary breakfast as apology the night before, which we NEVER GOT. Sometimes, due to incredible bad luck, some mishaps do happen- although a working flush is a BASIC requirement. But service recovery is a mark of a decent establishment. I would not recommend a place where- if you need to relieve yourself in the middle of the night, you’d have to get dressed and go on a little hike to get to a loo- to anyone! I wouldn’t recommend this place further due to the apathetic attitude of the service staff.

The room and staff were lovely however the room was so hot and the fan was so loud. We couldn't have the windows fully open due to the curtains being closed. It was a lovely hotel and the location was ideal as it is in the centre. We were able to keep our luggage there after for us to go shopping.
