Great accommodation in the middle of nowhere but perfect for our cycle of the NC 500. Basic but comfortable and clean with plenty of hot water and complimentary tea and coffee (make it yourself) won’t suit you if you demand creature comforts but for those seeking somewhere basic but comfortable it is perfect.

Perfect for our group doing LEJOG. Rooms are spotlessly clean. Even though it is a self-service hotel, we felt warmly welcome. Heaters were switched on before we came. Bottles water and snacks were provided. There’s even a thank you card.

The place was clean and tidy, with the added bonus of being dog-friendly, which was a huge plus for us. The dining room had a very cosy atmosphere, making it perfect for relaxing meals. Although the kitchen is small, it was well-equipped for our needs. The location is absolutely amazing—while taking the dog out for a walk at 6am, I saw multiple deer, which really made us feel immersed in nature. There's no WiFi, but if you're on EE, you'll get great 4G coverage, so staying connected isn't an issue at all. Overall, a peaceful and rejuvenating stay.

You get exactly what is said on the tin and more... The accommodation is self-serve (so wonderfully private), clean, warm and comfortable. And WOW! The location is secluded, peaceful and soo beautiful - yet 2 mins walk from the train station. Perfect!

Overall we had a pretty weird/uncomfortable night here. We expected a hotel, but it's more of a hostel crossed with an airbnb. It's self check-in which is fine, but they need a more established system as we were pretty confused upon arrival. There is a shared kitchen and dining room, but again, kind of unclear expectations here (I.e. do we do our own dishes?). The room itself had very uncomfortable mattresses so we both slept poorly. There were tons of midges in our room from the windows being open with no screens because previous guests had smoked cigarettes in there. The owner apologized and was nice about it, but they could have changed us to a different room as there were plenty available. It was super damp from the shower too from not being able to open the windows. I know this a highlands problem, but perhaps some window screens might help. I would say it was a $40 experience for a regular hotel price.. too bad because it looks like it has potential. Not eager to go back :/

This is a place that will surely stay in your memory. There you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the tranquility of the beautiful Scottish countryside. We have traveled the length and breadth of Scotland and yes, it is beautiful, but this place is like a journey into the past. Why, because the hotel, which was built around the 19th century, has preserved everything possible from that era. If someone loves such climates and peace and quiet, this is definitely a place worth recommending.

I checked in late as I was on the ferry from Orkney, the hotel isn't where Google maps says it is, it's by the train station which makes it hard to find in the dark.Upon entering the hotel the reception was closed, I gentleman appeared...no idea if owner or guest, and pointed out a key left on a table with a welcome note. The room was clean and comfortable and the bed was too.The water from the taps was brown like a fine peat water...not sure if this was an issue or a feature, but there was bottled water availableThe room had no kettle, but there was a kitchenette just outside my room which didThere is no TV in the room, or WiFi seemingly in the whole buildingOverall it was a strange experience, whether this was just growing pains or that's just how this hotel is I can't say.I'm not saying don't book it...just be aware it's not what you might expect

Upon arrival there were no staff about. After speaking with a representative on the phone i was told that this hotel has no staff and is a self serve hotel. The day of you arrival you get an email with instructions but this was not shown or told when booking the room. So when I arrive no one there to help, but a caretaker did show up and tell me what the guy on phone told me. Your emailed a code to get room key out of box. Everything is self serve and bring your own food as there is no restaurant or breakfast, (which I dud know about the food situation). If I had been told about this selfserve and the instructions sent on day of arrival I would of been better prepared and the price I paid for room of £95 was well over priced. On the good side the room was OK and the bed was amazing as I got a good night sleep and I was the only guest that night.
