Really nice employees but the hostel is very small and with little amenities. The beds were comfortable and did not make noise when getting in and out. Not a lot of room for your luggage. 2 bathrooms and 4 showers for the whole hostel so you have to wait a little. Also, very hard find, little black door in a building, blink and you will miss it.

This is a very decent hostel, with a great helpful friendly Team.Rooms 8/10 - you sleep on super solid bed, clean sheets, a lamp, a socket, even a towel rail. Yes, in the summer it was warm, we got a strong fan - what more can you do?Kitchen/breakfast 8/10 - the common area is small, but kitchen is superb equipped.Breakfast - if you want to be in a crowd go at 8.If you don't want to be in a crowd - go before 9.I had time to make my omelette, had time for my toast, had time to drink two coffees. If you go when everyone goes - it will be crowded.Toilets/showers 1/10 - what you read in other reviews is true. 3 showers/2 toilets for the whole hostel. That's BAD.Generally - absolutely top location, very nice Staff, good room, no problem with leaving luggage. All these "this is the worst hostel" whining... really?I give it 5/5 - to even out the rating a bit.

It was fine. The rooms are small for the number of beds, so no room for your luggage. Two showers were broken (and have been for some time apparently), so there were only 2 showers and 2 toilets for a place that can sleep 40 people... Even during a quieter period when we visited, there was a wait, and the showers were very cramped and the mouldy ceiling was not a good sign either. There also also no hooks or shelves in the toilets to hold your clothes while you change, which made using the amenities for any reason fairly uncomfortable. The common area/kitchen is also very small, especially for the number of guests. It would be nesr impossible for one an entire dorm of people to sit in there comfortably at one time, never mind 6.On the positive side, the staff were wonderful and very helpful. Location is right in the centre of Edinburgh and is easy to catch the train and buses from here as well as walk to most of the major attractions within the city. However, for the lack of adequate amenities and space, I would recommend just booking elsewhere.

I had a brilliant stay at this hostel! The staff were incredibly helpful and lovely to talk to. The bed was very cosy, and I had a really good nights sleep. I didn’t use the shower myself, but I had no concerns using the toilet facilities. It felt very safe and I would absolutely stay there again.

I loved my stay in the Baxter Hostel! Staff is really sweet and welcoming, the bedroom I had was comfy with a locker big enough for my sport bag and my backpack, plus breakfast is included.Only negative point is that bathroom need renovations, but that’s it.

I was dubious about the stay as a solo woman in the big city but there was an event on which sent the price of all my usual hotels sky high so I found The Baxter as an alternative. …

Staff are good and the response is fast when you send messages. HOWEVER- Very run down with pealing wall paper in dorm. Small rooms with hardly any space to move round.  …

The place is pleasant enough an I was very lucky to have a room with very, very quiet ladies on a Friday night, but the whole place is baking hot, extremely poorly ventilated and humid. The sheets felt damp and the bathroom ceiling is an ecosystem of mould.

The kitchen, bedroom and staff were nice but we had a problem with a light in the bedroom that shined all night. It was also quite hard to get up to the top bunk. …

I recently stayed at this hostel, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. The bed I was assigned had a bright green light directly above it, which stayed on throughout the night. This made it nearly impossible to sleep, as the light was very distracting and uncomfortable.Overall, I was very disappointed with my stay and would not recommend this hostel to others. The lack of basic amenities and the poor maintenance of the facilities made for a very uncomfortable experience.
